Bro,

Think about what you want to do with it, do u want to take it to the gym, just in your pocket, which pocket? what size device will meet all your needs?  FOr me, i have to have something i can attach to my arm at the gym with one of those velcro straps, for you that may not matter.
These are the best IMO and I WOULD NOT buy any of themnew, right now there is an new condition AK240 in the for sale section for $1700, you could probably tak the guy down to $1500.  Whereas you would pay nearly double new.
Anyway, within your price range:
rwak100
rwak120ii(used)
pono
ak120ii
ak100
Thats the best in my opinion

I'd agree with this list.  I really like my Pono with my K10's.  DSD playback and balanced outs for $400.  What else can do that?

I'd consider the AK variants if I had more cash...

It seems that just about anything sounds good with the K10's, and I would never argue the point!

I'm about to go travelling with the k10's. So far I've been using a Sony Xperia z2 as source.

Can anyone recommend a decent all in one source with:

1. great sound quality / synergy with the k10's.
2. Good to excellent battery life.

Budget of £500-1250

Any ideas? Do they work well with an AK 100 Ii?

Try and grab a AK120Titan, you get the dual Wolfson WM8740s, 128GB on board with 2x 64gb micro sd card slots for total of 256gb, DSD capable (decimated to 88.2 PCM via optical out), optical out.   Better bang for the buck relative to the AK100II in my opinion.   I'm quite happy with my K10U/AK120 combo stand alone away from my Hugo....just unable to stand alone for too long.

Many others have chimed in, but I'm in full agreement. The K10 sounds remarkable with the AK120 IIs. There's good synergy with this combination. I've also found the battery life on the AK120 IIs pretty decent. If you're running single ended, you can also consider the AK100 II, which has, for the most part, a sound signature similar to the AK120 IIs.

I have been using a Fiio X5 with my K10U's for a few months now. They do sound really good together, and you can't go wrong with the price.

I haven't heard the AK's, but I'm sure they sound great too.

Something to consider when weighing your priorities/needs.

My experience is that the K10s scale up well.

Have an iphone...no problem the K10 delivers magic.

Have and AK... very nice.

Have a HUGO...wow.

Start with what you can afford and know that you can always get more out of the K10 the more you upgrade.  That is not a bad problem to have.  Contrast this with impedance picky IEMs or over the ear headphones that require specific amplification to sound good.

Well, my K10 came today. Balanced out of my AK100ii and AK120ii, wow...

Rob

Congrats Rob!!! Enjoy.

Where did you get your balanced cable?

Question for Brannan or Dr. Moulton,

Any chance you guys would be willing to make a longer 5-6ft cable available in your store?
It would definitely help with the at home listening, and I'd prefer to buy in house vs 3rd party. Please let me know!

Thank you!
