I just had the chance to listened to the Edition 15 at Headfi HQ yesterday afternoon. My experience with Ultrasone is limited to the Edition 9 ( used to own them), Edition 10 ( tried to liked them twice!), Edition 8 (listened to them at a friend's house), Edition 5 Unlimited (listened to them at RMAF 2016), Edition 25 Jubilee (Listened to them at RMAF 2016), Edition 8EX (own them), Edition 7 Tribute (Listened to them yesterday too) and Edition 15. Out of all these the top two form me are the Edition 25 Jubilee and Edition 15 with the Edition 8EX following close.
To me the Edition 25 Jubilee is not at the top (and drops to 3rd position) due to its price/performance ratio. At $6,000 to me is too much for what it offers. if it was priced around the $4,000 range it would be more competitive. The Edition 7 Tribute sounds basically very similar to the Edition 9 I used to own and with the same comfort issues I had with them that force me to sell them.
The tone is similar to the Edition 8EX but it is smoother and with a much wider soundstage. The bass is really nice for an open design. It is light and very comfortable. Actually more comfortable than the Edition 8EX since the cups have a different shape and slightly larger. Because of this I would put the Edition 15 at the top as the best Ultrasone headphones I have heard based on my taste of sound.
I liked them so much that I already put my name down in the list for when they become available here in the States.
Thank you for your report. A question, when money were not important, how does 25 and 15 compare?
