New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000

I agree that 1 Tb is not 1000 G b. But... 200 G b should be...200 G b

Mac OS rounds all file size to 1000 increments instead of 1024 ever since Snow Leopard. Windows and Android use 1024 increments. This is why your files appear to me smaller but you will also see that the total available free space is also proportionally smaller. To make this more confusing SD Card manufacturers will do the same thing - claim 200 GB, but the fine print states they are using 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. SSD drive makers also do this. I'm guessing Apple decided to follow suit because they got tired of answering "why do I only have 186 GB when I should have 200?"

I noticed the same issue as you @Spl82 with my SP1000SS and my SONY MDR 1000xx and specially when I'm using the headphone cable and not bluethooth.

Something also happened two times now :
When the DAP is playing paired with SONY headphones MDR 1000 XX via bluethooth at certain moment the DAP went off and I have to restart it again then pair to the headphone via bluethooth again and it start to play.

Has someone experience the second point ?
The headphones plays normally with other DAP I have.

Thanks
Sam
What do you mean when you say the DAP "went off"? Do you mean it restarted? I don't have any bluetooth headphones/IEMs with me, so I can't do a test, but I can imagine such an issue, if recurring, to be highly irritating. Hope it was just a one-off problem.

1GB is not equal to 1000MBs in the OS.
It counts 1GB = 1024MBs and hence you will get only 183GB from the 200GB card.
A 200 GB card should have 200 GB free. Some space could be taken up by some manufacturer files on the micro SD card, but nothing close to 17 GB, I'd expect.

Edit: @bflat makes a good point. I guess you could both be right.

Edit: @bflat makes a good point; still, it reeks of deception all round.

The power of the SP1000 stop by itsel. And nothing happens again until I press power button to restart the power and make it plays again

That's a worrying problem, my friend. I hope @JasonNYC could help shed some light on this issue?

Hi Jason,

Tried the AK Ripper with SP1000 again and no luck

Used a 5V 2.1A power supply
Connected the SP1000 to ripper with the USB-C cable come with the SP1000
plus the ADL 'OTG-MF" USB-A socket to Micro B
otg-pic.png

FW is 1.03CN
WIFI ON

The "External USB" logo lighted up but won't recognize the ripper properly
can hear the CD spinning but no ripper menu popup

The same setting works on my AK240 and my friend's AK380

Would it be some driver issue or FW issue?

Thanks in advance!

Are you seeing an issue just when paired with the Sony MDR via Bluetooth? Is it certain tracks or any track playing that you experience the issue? I assume you do not have an issue if you are connected via wired headphones/IEMs and playing the same tracks?

It could be an issue with the OTG cable you are using to connect. We've tested with a USB-C to microUSB cable without issue.

yes I confirm, I have no problem when I use it via wired with the same Sony headphone, or with IEMs.
only via bluetooth and that happened only two times during the week. It is not due to a specific track.

What firmware version are you running? You can find it under Settings, System Information, Firmware version. Latest firmware should be 1.03.

when I received the DAP, it was already under the firmware 1.03, the last version.
I have checked, the version is : 1.03CM
I got the DAP it is about one week now, I think I have 2 weeks with the seller to send back in case of serious issu ... for exchange (maybe).

Could you guys shed some light for me as to why are you using bluetooth headphones with a $3500 DAP? Bluetooth headphones have their own DAC and AMP built in, which would by - by neccesity of small available space and low price - of absolutely low quality when compared to your SP1000. In other words, SP1000 sends "unpackaged" 0101010101's by air to your headphones internal little DAC. And this way you don't really use SP1000s great DAC and AMP. Ultima it is used only as a file reader and file sender. Or am I missing something? Why would you do that? From what I understand, the quality will be100% the same as if you used your iPhone to connect with your bluetooth headphones.
