New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000

Don't know,
used the OTG cable come with the ripper plus a micro-USB to Type C converter to connect the SP1000 with the AK ripper

Would be great if Jason can suggest how to make it working

USB type C can act as a host, or a slave, depends on how you opt it to be, you don't need OTG adapter. Try your stock SP1000 USB C cables and connect it to an adapter into your CD Ripper

Thanks
Maybe will test with the stock USB C cable plus a USB to micro USB adapter for connection next time
Well, I borrowed it from my friend for a day only, don't have the money to buy one for myself

Keep the thread alive people ! Where are all the early adopters Impressions ? I want to compare this to wm1Z so bad

I don't think you are going to find many Headfi folks that own both DAPs or have extended auditioning of both. Couple that with the variability of which headphones/IEMs they use, and I don't think you will get much objective impressions that apply to your specific gear.

If you buy from AK, you have 14 days to return for a refund so that is your best bet imho.

I'm using SE846 with SP1000 and would like to jump up another higher step in terms of IEM.
Which kind of IEM could you please advise me ? I want something with more large soundstage, precision on bass and hight - middle etc.., not fatiguing. Easy to wear.
thanks for your advice, even you can MP me if needed.

Hi Jason,

Any suggestion on using the AK CD ripper with the SP1000?
I see the option in the menu but the ripper not working while connected
Checking with the support team to see what the issue may be. Unfortunately I don't have a ripper with me to try myself. When you connect the ripper to the SP1000, do you get a message that you connected the CD ripper to the player? Also, did you connect the ripper itself to a power supply? With the USB-C to microUSB adapter, the SP1000 may not be supplying enough power to the ripper and it needs to be plugged in separately. There is a microUSB jack on the back of the ripper labeled power. You would need to connect a microUSB cable to that jack and plug it into a wall charger.

Samuel777- Your SE846's are fairly bass-centric/warm with a solid bottom, lush mids and rolled-off trebles. You don't say what inserts you are using, but that is pretty much what they are. I had a pair, and eventually upgraded to JH Angies and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitors, both of which were definite improvements for about that $1K price point (though I added a custom Moon Audio cable for the Angies). There are all sorts of IEMs you could get, either customs or universals. Ultimate Ears has very nice IEMs at fairly reasonable prices which may give you what you want. I use their UERMs with my AK240SS and am quite pleased with them. UE currently is selling UERRs and UE18 Pros that are getting good reviews. Jerry Harvey has a large line of IEMs, someone here likes the Layla with the SP1000. Empire Ears might be worth looking into. You also might want to look at "Twisters" reviews on Head-Fi for more info on a wide range of devices. There are many IEMs at higher and higher price points, but what someone else recommends might not be what your personal sound signature is. By all means try them out before buying if at all possible.

We had a space next to Westone at the HI-Res Audio Pavilion at CES this year. Got to spend some time listening to the W80. I loved the sound from the W80.

Just heard back from our support team who confirmed the AK CD Ripper works with SP1000.

A few suggestions that they made:
- CD ripper needs to be plugged into a 5V 2A Adapter.
- check SP1000 F/W. Older fw does not support Cd ripper - latest firmware is 1.03
- check the cable between sp1000 and cd ripper.
- connect to wifi
- check slide down menu, External USB mode shows CD Ripper connected.
