No.
Just is offical AK fw with special installation.
Manually sideload 1.17CM or 1.20CM update.hex.
Then install ApkPure.apk by filename-trick method.
Once having ApkPure installed, install/update app is just so simple and convinience.
My method is to install Bootapps, Apexlauncher, then set bootapps always run Apexlauncher at boot.

Aklauncher and Apexlauncher runs altogether.
OTA update to 1.70 all apps still in Apex.
Can use EasyExtract to got .apk in new FW (ex. Roon, V-link...) to install on older FW works normally.

I got a reasonable amp for about $90 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SLRBDV4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) but am looking to upgrade to around $500. Tube or solid state? I'm running them into my Kef towers from 1978.

It would be a dedicated amp only for music from the AK. I have a Home Theater AVR for everything else.

Isn’t the optical out digital? The amp would need a dac?

Nothing to do with tube or solid state. Optical out you can't connect to a solid state amp too if that device does not have a DAC.
Do a 3.5mm line out and the DAC on the sp1000 will still be used instead of being an audio transport.

Optical out is a Tosslink 3.5 from the AK into an amp. I have one working right now on my cheap amp.

Got a chance to compare my sp1000+amp with sp2000. I barely hear differences...

Honestly they sounded too similar to compare. I could said sp2000 a little be wider in soundstage? But it's really subtle, might even just copium.

Dose anyone try them both and feel the same way as I do?

I find out that NePlayer output very goodddd sound compare to streaming directly using spotify/apple music.

I don't seem to have this problem. Are you using the AK Connect app on your phone (iOS or Android) or something else?
