New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000
Jun 30, 2022 at 7:57 PM Post #9,181 of 9,406
The SP1000M runs Android 6. There are no plans to upgrade it to a newer version of Android. As long as the Amazon Music app supports Android 6, it will work on the SP1000M. Even if Amazon stops developing the app for Android 6, older versions of the app that do support Android 6 can still be installed.

Next week there will be a firmware update for the SP1000/SP1000M that adds support for Macs running M1 chipset, improves Wi-Fi connectivity when using streaming services and a number of Bluetooth connectivity improvements, so there are still firmware updates being provided for it at this time.
Thank you for your quick response!

Be aware that Amazon Music has trouble identifying the high-res capabilities of the SP1000M and other A&K DAPs. It will usually work if you play a local 24/192 track before using AM but YMMV. Not sure why that wasn't mentioned as @RIGATIO specifically asked about Amazon Music.

Here is a post about this issue with in the SE200 thread:

Also, the M1 Mac chipset was released over a year and a half ago in Nov 2020 so timely firmware updates shouldn't be expected.

Thanx very much, thats very helpful! I remember playing Amazon HD on the sp1k and didnt feel any sound degradation comparing to the dx300. Thats why i didnt even check the details about song i played. Tidal app played very poorly tho so i could hear lower sq.
This seems quite unfortunate and problematic. Not sure if i want to bother going through this procedure.
Im guessing that the Kann Maxx may have similar problems..

You should probably ask in the Maxx thread. It's possible that it's been resolved in the newer devices. It remains a problem on my SR15 and SP1000M.

Correct, M1 chipset is over a year old, but the USB port manufacturers have only recently released updated drivers in the past few months making older USB ports compatible with the new specs used in the thunderbolt ports on M1 based machines. There are tons of products that are at least a year old that are still not compatible with M1 Macs.

add remembering the settings of the connected sp10000 amp, so that every time you turn on the player with the amp, you do not have to reconnect it. And in the Qobuz the ability to remove the floating button

@JasonNYC thanks for an update. Do you know if we can also expect an update for buggy DAC filters behaviour, introduced in v1.65?

I believe so. I will confirm when I am back in the office on Tuesday (Monday is a holiday here in the US).

@JasonNYC : do you know if the amp (sp1000) has an updatable firmware, just like the sp1000 ?
Thx

Firmware update V. 1.70 for SP1000 and SP1000M is now available for the SP2000. This update contains a number of stability improvements as well as bug fixes. Some of the bigger fixes include:

1. Wi-Fi stability improvements when using streaming services, including fix for random disconnection issues
2. BT connection improvements
3. Fix for connectivity issues when using M1 processor-based Macs

The DAC filter issue should also be fixed for both players as well. Please let me know if you have any issues, but both the SP1000 and SP1000M I have here are not showing the issue anymore.

Could someone please upload the latest firmware for the SP1000m? I cannot for the live of me get my SP1000m to connect to any wifi network. It will constantly drop connection. Neither is the firmware available on A&K's website (yet). Yes, I tried resetting the device and using a hotspot, to no avail.

Edit: got it to work after a lot of trial and error. Wifi appears more stable on the lastest firmware that I now managed to install.

I guess this is what trying to save a few dollars on a TOTL DAP, by installing a cheap wifi adapter can lead to, referring especially to the SP1000(m)'s lack of support for 5 ghz wifi. While at the time of it's release, every other device could and did in fact support wifi on the 5 ghz band.

Happy to know, my SP1000 which is still in beautiful shape, and the battery is still in great shape all these years, still getting firmware updates. Thanks AK for still supporting your products.

Is it normal for sp1000 to reboot by itself? This may be frequent. For example, I'm listening to Qobuz and the player catches a stutter for a moment and goes into reboot. It was on the previous firmware and it happened on the new one today. Also on the last firmware, this was 5 times in a row in Apple Music. Weird. I decided to reset the settings, while scanning the music and setting up Qobuz, he managed to reboot himself 5 times. Even in idle mode, he managed to go into reboot. Never noticed this before, June cursed him.
