Haha yes I hear the difference only when I use full size headphones and an amp but without them and with only IEMs, I think the cowon outperforms the Z for some odd reason!  Maybe its because I'm so used to the Cowon sound that I cant adapt to the Z .....but I have no idea why.  Will need to test it out again today.  I think the bass on the Z is quite muddy and for that reason, I prefer BBE.

The Z bass is muddy compared to the Cowon? Seriously? I love Cowon and owned most of their players, including the S9 and the previous generation players, but this is my first Sony player and the bass is a lot tighter than the S9, and doesn't have the bass roll off I keep encountering with BBE. I actually like my first Sony player.

Scroll down to the How-to Section for instructions on how to add playlists via Windows Media Player or Media Go. Playlists cannot be added on the player any other way unless you use some other app like Poweramp, Google Music, etc.

BTW found a deal on some Klipsch IEMs and they sound really good with the Z. Very comfortable too (main reason why I bought them). I am finding w/ the Z that I can discern the quality of lossy files pretty easily. I know immediately when a file is 192 kbps compared to say 256 kbps or 320 kbps even on my car stereo where ambient noise is quite loud. I consider this to be both a blessing and a curse. :p Don't get me wrong, even 192 kbps files sound great, but when you hear 320 kbps or lossless files the quality difference is noticeable.

I have a case on preorder right now, it's the limited edition case from PORTER that comes with the limited edition 1070 white. Let's see if I can get it.

Is this the Porter case you're referring to?

For folks with the Japanese WM-Zs, I just received a firmware update to 1.21 over-the-air.

I like that Porter case, looks like I can add an Amp to it and keep both together... problem is the $103.84 price tag.  Sheesh!  Think I'm going to have to get a sewing machine and learn how to sew!

If your WM-Z is rooted, do not update to firmware 1.21. I can't seem to re-root the device anymore.

Mine was rooted in order to unlock the country restriction in Google Play (Google Market) so I could download MOG and Spotify, which I use as the source (320 kbps) of my music.

Thanks for the heads up...what exactly did it update though...just genreal battery life, and smoothness etc? Of so I think i may be able to live without it being rooted for the time being...not many exploits to use with the Z :frowning2:

How did you  managed to get 320kbps music from Spotify? My only disapointment was to realised I  was limited to 160kbps on Android  (previously had a Touch and that was 320kbps)

Spotify just released a beta/preview version for Android that turns on Extreme setting for both streaming and downloads, similar to the iOS app.

someone asked if this is worth amping. I just tried that with an ibassod12 and it was a big stepup, brings out bass and body.
Now is there anyway to play msuic off this player using the same folder structure as the ones on my pc? I dragged and dropped all my folders into the music folder but now i cant find half my stuff. Poweramp same problem, though it says folders, these arent the folders that i dragged and dropped over usb.
