[New] Philips Fidelio X1
Mar 20, 2015 at 1:23 PM Post #5,281 of 5,962
Has anyone else besides George bought the alpha pads? I am looking to switch them out for the original in the long run. I find the original very comfy but not able to clean them very easily or buy direct from Philips, replacements doesn't do it for me.

I would be interested in hearing how it changes the sound on both X1 and the X2.

How many of you X1 owners are itching to get the X2's? Ever since I tried them at a local meet last weekend, I now realize they are much more comfortable on my large head.

Bass impact is nearly equivalent, and the detail of the highs is so nice. Now I'm looking for a way to offload my X1's for the X2's!

Someone please convince me otherwise

I had my X1s exchanged for X2s under warranty. The X2 is a definitive improvement, it has more air and separation mainly. But I do not think an upgrade is worth the price difference

Does that mean they will use X2 for all replacements in the future? Definitely feasible as Phillips may believe that to be a better replacement strategy

I have read out from several comments that X1 has more soundstage depth towards front than X2, not much though and with good matching amp/dac it`s almost same as X2. I also think that upgrade isn`t worth the money but each to his own.

I'm fine with the X1s, the X2s were $100 more and I wanted the (apparently) more bassy one anyway. If I want clarity and treble, then I'll listen to another headphone for that.

edit: Also I prefer the X1 aesthetics

How did that work? Did you send the X1's back to Philips and then were charged the difference to have X2's shipped back in replacement?

I thought about it before purchasing. But my personal biggest problem with most open cans is the weak bass. I've owned K701, HD598, and DT880, and all three lacked the fullness that I liked out of my headphones. I like warm headphones (with more treble than the HD650) more than neutral for listening to music. So when I saw the X2 was more neutral, I decided on the X1. It ticked all my boxes aside from non-replaceable pads. I'm no basshead. I didn't like the DT770s because I thought they had way too much bass. But I do think bass fills out music in a way that neutral headphones lack. The X1 is pretty much perfect for me.

I have the Fidelio X1 and I want to upgrade. What do you guys think is a logical upgrade to the X1?

Depends what do You personally want to be improved over X1 in SQ ?

Loving the X1s but the non-replaceable earpads and the padding on the top is disappointing. I got them used, traded my He-300 for them and I would love to be able to wash them to get the previous owner's smell out.

Pads are removable/replaceable (If You can find Philips selling X1 or X2 pads anywhere) and washable

And padding on the top can be relieved quite easily

Maybe a better soundstage, a little bit more clarity in the highs.. and a slighly less darker? I dont mean that I hate the current signature but generally wondering what an upgrade in a similar line would be.
