[New] Philips Fidelio X1

The X1 do sound good, better than the momentum overall.. give them a try.

If you can afford more then I would have something like D5000 + HD600.....

But if you have a budget of about £200 and want a pair that does everything, works well with most genres and also games and films... then the X1 is good. Comfort is also probably the best I have ever used, stupid philips should release pads for them though.

Funny seeing the DT990 Pro and D7000 mentioned frequently at this point in the thread since those are 2 headphones that I wished banged it out and produced some kind of franken-offspring headphone.

I still have the DT990 Pro and just wished it wasn't so sibilant.

Apart from the HD600/650, my ideal headphone would be an open version of the D7000 with better balance between low-mid-high. The planar HE-500 was pretty good, but enough bothered me about it that I didn't hold on to it.

The X1 so far does a lot right, I think a great deal at its price point.

I love the 650. I think I may want it more as a clear alternative to the X1 than the Annie

I tried the HD650 briefly at the last Ohio meet and I really enjoyed it.  It did share a lot of similarities with the Anniversary though - not sure if there's room for both.  I'm going to give it another listen at the upcoming Ohio meet.

Both of you, stop replying to each other, period. You're egging each other on. Again, just STOP. Ignore each other.

I don't agree with that assessment. I believe the X1 are in a completely different league from the AKGs, with reasons for preferring the 700 series being driven by either a crippling distaste for the Fidelio sound or madness.

the sound of the Momentums but the soundstage and comfort on them is a bit rubbish.

I find the X1 midrange to be very uncolored if just a Thaddeus, er, Tad laid back at times. But vocals sound as natural as I have heard from a headphone? Could be.

I agree. The X1's midrange is pretty much on the side of neutral, and just slightly distant and pushed into the background because of the bass. SLIGHTLY. This further helps the X1's sense of space.

There are barely any sort of bassy fully open cans. You have the X1, DT990, and HD650.

You can EQ pretty much anything to have a stupid amount of bass, assuming the drivers and enclosure can handle it. I'm not for EQ-ing my audiophile headphones, but I don't see why it shouldn't.
