Just got my M-Audio Q40 for $119.50 with an $9 replacement cable from Amazon. I cut out the rubber 3.5mm rubber housing to make it fit. It looks and works great with a shorter 6' nylon braided cable. The bass, sound quality, fit, finish and isolation is very good. I was going to get a Audio Technica M50 but decided M-Audio Q40 after reading all the great reviews. The only downside I have read so far is the headphone cable. But I think I found an very economical solution to the problem and I am happy with the results and cost. Thanks to the all the contributors.

Haven't had enough time to burn-in or do a real comparison between the two cables. If anything I don't think it could be worst. The main benefit is having an economical, durable, flexible, attractive, shorter cable. The cost for a threaded 3.5mm jack is already $6-$7 bucks. I like the nylon braided cable, the 3.5mm jack is solid fit. The Aurum cable on Amazon comes in 1' cables male to female, 6' white and black cable as well.
