So... the MDR-CD900ST sounds almost exactly like the HA-MX100-Z + Z1000 pads.

JVC sounds a tiny bit better to me, with better sub-bass and treble.
Sony sounds 'smoother' because of this, but is also lighter on the head.
Other than that, they sound like siblings - both absolutely fantastic studio monitors.

For an even higher-end more balanced tuned MX100-Z also with improved wearing comfort there is a new ear pad on the block.

Treble detail and presence is improved, as is the sense of space.

I don't have a CD900ST on hand for comparison, but if I did I'm pretty sure there would be no competition at this point.
The new king of studio is here.

(thanks @nick n for the top-tier pad recommendation)

I really appreciate the graph ( and of course real life listening impressions ).
So far I only have 2 Edifier pad sets, might need some more as you never know when things will get phased out.
Pleather coatings these days sure don't seem to hold up as well as the old days.
Need to use them on both the MX10B and MX-100Z.

This is the aftermarket earpads I have currently used for HA-MX100V and MDR-CD900ST, the material and depth of the pads are similar to MDR-7506 while the damping cloth which covering the driver is also similar as the CD900ST.

To me, the mids and highs are barely untouched. But the most noticeable while using these earpads was the lows are now enjoyable albeit not punchy, especially within the sub-bass region when listening to a jazz music for example with this closing theme by David Sanborn for The late late show with Tom Snyder.

Also tested it for the CD900ST and the lows are slightly present vs stock pads, but didn't get the same vibe as when listening with the MX100V.
