New iRiver AK70

They don't want to make it more appealing than their cash-cows at the multi-thousand-dollar end of their product range.

Pity, really.

Yeah, it's seriously dumb considering Onkyo DP-X1 and iBasso DX80 both have dual microSD card slots at lower price range.

Putting an extra microSD card slot is not even a work for mechanical engineers as microSD card doesn't consume much battery at all.

Why can't they give us that option which apparently won't cost them more than $5 to do.

You can put 30 - 40 DSD albums into a single 200GB microSD card. This is a very poor amount when you're paying nearly $600 cash.

They need to release a black color version of AK70 with dual microSD slots with full 24bit 192kHz support.

If the AK70 doesn't appeal to you, then perhaps you might care to consider Fiio's (still-in-development) T3, which is intended, first&foremost, as a digital transport, but does have some DAP functionality included (the DAC and amp sections are just those integrated on the SOC).

For others, I'm sure the AK70 will find plenty of customers - it's not perfect, but I am, at least, pleased to see iRiver re-entering the sub-$1000 end of the market, in terms of the overall attitude in the DAP market.

+1 !     I am so happy my AK100 (old version V1) has 2 microSD slots.  Now I have 416 Gb in my pocket :-)

Only solution left for the new AK :  a MicroSD -> SD adapter and a 512 Gb SD card ;-)

Yeah.

Buying a leather case of AK70 which can conceal that adapter would solve this problem.
But, it's going to make it a little thicker and uglier...

They really need to do AK80 with two microSD slots and full 24bit 192kHz support with dual dac.

At their factory, their mechanical engineers don't need to pay more than $20 for that upgrade. They're pretending to save on this device...

The photo makes them look slightly different, but it's the same color. If you compare the one that looks "gold" to the real gold color of the AK Jr next to it, you'll see it's clearly different.
They probably will release different colors at one point, but those are not it.

mmm.............T3 sounds interesting. Still in dev vs. a product you can get NOW.

This one's clearly silver. I don't know why this looks mint green to your eyes. Ask a person next to you if this looks mint green or silver.
