Hello everyone,

The urge has come back, I find myself wanting something new :)

My details:
Currently own: Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 Ohm
Ordered: Shure SE215's.

Will mainly be using the headphones through my iAudio Cowon S9 and sometimes through my Dell laptop. I prefer the sound of my mp3 player

I listen to a lot of music. However I'll mention some bands or artists:
My favourites:
Dire Straits / Mark Knopfler
Eric Clapton
David Gilmour / Pink Floyd

but also;
David Gray
Deathcab for Cutie
Eddie Vedder
Queen
Bob Dylan
The Eagles
Billy Joel
Bob Marley
Guns N Roses
Simon and Garfunkel
The Beatles
John Fogerty / CCR

Honestly it's mainly guitar music that does it for me. I want solo's to sound amazing. I like being able to notice every instrument used in the recording. Together with nice sounding vocals ofcourse.

Previously owned:
Sennheiser HD555: Loved these really, sold them at the time to buy closed headphones instead.
Grado SR60: Kinda liked them, although honestly, I must admit I didn't give them enough use to appreciate them. Sold them when I moved to Australia.

What I'm looking for:
Something different from my DT770's. Don't get me wrong, I love the Beyers.. definitely going to keep them.
Open or closed, it doesn't really matter. If they're closed it'd be good so I could use them in public, but otherwise no big deal, they're mainly for entertainment at home.
I would like a headphone that has a lot of detail. I love hearing stuff in the background which you normally don't get to hear.

My considerations this far:
Sennheiser HD598
AKG K271 MKII / AKG K240

Thoughts please :) thanks!

From what I've read a headphone with a good midrange is needed in order for guitar rifts to shine.  So, with that in mind, here are some suggestions for ya:

Audio-Technica ATH-A700, A900, AD900

Grado SR225i

The Audio-Technicas have a nice slightly midrange-centric sound signature(from what I've read) along with an expansive sound stage,  while the Grados sound signature is very midrange centric.

Hmm I think it'll be a bit hard for me to get Audio Technica's in Australia. Really been struggeling to find a good website here with decent prices.

What about the ATH PRO 700 btw? or the ATH M50S

Considering you'd be buying from Australia, if you're considering Grados, you might want to consider the Alessandro MS-2, no big price uptick for the distributors and free worldwide shipping.  The MS-2 is supposedly based on the same platform as the SR 325is, but is also supposed to be a bit mellower sounding (I have not heard them).  The MS-1 is supposed to be similar to the SR 125i and they MS-Pro to the RS-1i.  All are manufactured by Grado, and at the current exchange rate, are great deals.

Thanks for that website. They actually have a lot :)
List of considerations

Sennheiser HD598 359AUD

Audio Technica: ATH-M50 269AUD

Audio Technica:ATH-A900 269AUD

Audio Technica:ATH-AD700 149AUD

Audio Technica:ATH-AD900 323AUD

Alessandro: MS-2 349AUD

The ATH-AD900 seems nice.
Any advice between these headphones?

Actually tempted to go for the AD700's now, wonder how they'd add to my DT770's though.

I've been using the AD700s for the past few years and the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80-Ohm for the past 10 days, the DT 770 are better,  so getting the AD700s would be a wast of money for you, the bass of the DT 770s adds to sound that the AD700s lack.

Hmm... aren't they completely different though? The AD700 and the DT770 Pro's?

Hmm guess I'm stuck now.. open for any suggestions.
The AD700 and AD900 should be quite different compared to my DT770's as they're open. And they have a good soundstage apparently.
