You might also want to compare the JVC HA-Rx900s, at $65 you might like them just for the price, they will make you look like a Cyberman.
Also you could modify them for the fun of it.

Alright well all 5 headphones are here now (ATH-A700, ATH-AD700, ATH-50S, HD555 and HD448). My mixamp doesn't get there till tomorrow so i can't really test these in surround sound on my 360 but I think I like the AD/A700s best. I'll just have to choose whether I want the openess or closed model

The first time I played with my AD700, I was called hacker and got banned. If you have a bigger head like me, they are arguably the best gaming headphone.

Well after testing all 5 sets, I've narrowed it down to 2: the ATH-AD700s and the HD555s. If the AD700s had the slightest bit more bass they would be absolutely perfect, but I've noticed them to be a bit lacking compared to the other sets when playing Dead Space. However, when I popped in Call of Duty 4, it was magic to my ears... My cursor was flying all over the place to where enemies were, and it was truly amazing how good the soundstage was... So now I just need to decide between these 2 sets.

Now my question is, does anybody have a good boom mic solution for this set? The Labtec mic that many people were modding is sold out pretty much everywhere so I'm looking for a good alternative. The Zalman mic was very spotty in my testing so I'd like something better. HAs anybody modded the original mic that comes with the 360?

I got a pair of AKG 240 studio headphones myself. I haven't goten them yet so I can't really say how they are for gaming, but I've heard nothing but great things about them.

I ordered this, hopefully it's easy to break down so I can velco it to the side of whichever headset I pick

How did the HD555's compare to the AD700's?

I'm going to do one last test run tomorrow when I'm more awake, but at this point I'm thinking the AD700s are the winner... The HD555s are nice, and after the foam mod they did sound more bass-y, but theres something just flawless about the soundstage on the AD700s. I was doing ok on CoD4 with the HDs on, but as soon as I throw the AD700s back on, it's pure magic. The sound tracking and ability to hear all directions is incredible. And I figured if I want a bit more bass for my single player games like Dead Space, I can just use the bass boost button on my MixAmp. Like I said, one more run through tomorrow, but as of now the ATH-AD700s are my overall keeper.

between hd555 and ad700, i'd say that would easily go to the ad700, much wider soundstage, and better treble response.  However if you can shell out the money i'm using dt990's, 600 ohm version.  I've never been this immersed in BFBC2, it's pretty spectacular.

I really wish I still had my copy of BFBC2, that game is the king of sound effects (as far as locations/explosions/gunfire). I think that would be the #1 game to test gaming cans, besides CoD4:MW
