They are somewhat less colored than some of their other woodies, yes.

I don't hear anything in the W3000ANV's characteristics I'd call honky, personally. The W5000 for example can have a certain nasally characteristic on some recordings, but that's not something I'm hearing with the W3000ANV.

My Onkyo DAC-1000 arrived the other day, and I've taken quite a fancy to it. I plan on auditioning the Fostex HP-A8 when it comes out as well, especially since I'd like an all-in-one solution for my desk.

I just found the thread and saw you got it. Impressions seem good from everyone so far.
I'm focused on the W4S at the moment since the Fostex has only one output and the Onkyo is 100V.
I do like the Japanese build quality more I must say.

I was going through this thread reading what others thought and it's a small world after all. We do have a lot of politicians in some kind of zoo in the middle of town though.
 
Anyhow, I picked up a Fostex HP-A7 from Fujiya AVIC and #717 of the W3000ANV's. Pretty big upgrade from my AD700s, thats for sure.
