New Beyerdynamic T5p 2nd generation

I'm absolutely in love with these but I'm noticing that vocals can be a bit sharp/sibilant at times, especially female vocals, are there any mods I can do or recommended pads to swap to that could help with this? It's the only thing keeping these from being a perfect headphone for me

Why can't beyerdynamic do both? They been going long enough, give us deep powerful fast bass,it ain't rocket science, couldn't careless about the highs if we don't have ear rumbling quality bass

High end headphones are usually rather neutral with a focus on imaging and resolution. The T5P have a bass boost because they are portable. In my opinion it's just right. Adding more bass drowns all the details in the music. I don't need an 800 EUR headset for that.
You might try putting the DT1770 Velour pads on the T5P. They increase comfort, soundstage and clarity. Maybe that's the sound signature you are looking for.

That's rather strange that you percieve them that way. They have a noticeable dip at the frequencies where previous Beyer models sounded too sibilant. https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/headphones/measurements/brands-a-i/t5p-mk2/

Hello...

I don't believe in cable but I want to replace the stock cable with the 1/4 inch / 6.3mm termination, (don't like using the converter).
Any recommendation ? Nothing fancy, but affordable cable.

Thanks !

Ebay -> search for focal elear cable replacements. For example https://www.ebay.com/itm/Replacemen...hash=item41be0e1b74:m:mx_Rjs3hcRga0wFjaHpLuhA
These cables can be bought for any type of headphone, any connection; for ~ $50.- you can even find balanced cables.

Hi, does anyone here use the T5p exclusively for in-home use? I use a T1 at home with a quality desktop amp and it's great, but of course the T1 doesn't isolate AT ALL. The closed back of the T5p is what I need, but I'm not sure about the rest of the design - seems designed with mobile-use in mind. Is the T5p really not a good choice for in-home use? Thanks

Yes I do and yes it is a good choice for when there are noisy kids around or when the wife has the TV on loud. :-)

I only use them indoors with a good amp and they can easily replace the open back T1. Excellent headphones that scale with a proper source.

The T5p is very good for home use. With the DT1770 velour pads, the T5p sounds more open and a lot similar to my 1st Gen T1 with Gen2 pads.

So I just received this T5p 2nd gen. Compare to my Fostex TH900 1st gen, bass is muddy, mid is ehhh, trebles are not very impressive.

Its only been 1 hour, how long you need to burn in ? does it improve the sound sig that much after the brun in ?

Anything when compared to the TH900 will sound less dynamic to me. The TH900's are incredible at what they do for a semi-closed/closed headphone. That's why when I let my friends listen to my headphones I save them for last. The T5P's do begin to open up and settle down around the 50 hour mark. You just need to let them play and come back to them and you'll notice the changes more. Give your ears time to adjust to their sound as well. Swapping back and forth with the TH900's doesn't help, lol. To me they are another portable option as I'm just to afraid to take my TH900 MKII's out the house from fear of damaging the cups. The T5p's are much more durable in that regard. Lastly, the T5p's to my ears have a nice balanced, detailed sound with a little bass boost that works with any source. I enjoy them very much with my Dragonfly Red.

I have the T5p II and TH900 m2 as well. Its not a fair comparison in my opinion. The T5p are smaller, isolate better, are more portable and cost less. The TH900 sound more dynamic but I really like the imaging and the way the T5p have been voiced. Out of my Audirvana -> iGalvanic -> Hugo2 the t5p sounds very refined and sublime. I can't ask for a better portable headphone. I also compared these to the Mr Speakers Aeon Flow Closed and its no contest, the T5p is better in every way.

Ah I see.I felt the same, TH900 mk1 is in the another league, never heard the TH900 MK2 so I cannot say much. I guess either I keep this or wait for the Senn HD820.
