New Beyerdynamic T1 (2nd Generation)

Well I will give them a hundred hours of burn-in and then we will see.

People that complain the Focal Elear has recessed mids should hear these things.
The T1.2 mids are recessed. They are the opposite, with an upper-mid hump/prominence.

I have several headphone amps and the T1's seem to work very well with amps that have enough power to drive them at 600 ohms +....the impedance changes and goes even higher depending on the frequencies being reproduced. Your setup may not be the optimal for these high end headphones.

I have used the T1's with headphone amps from 60 mw to 600 mw and they all work very well. Beyer recommends at least 30mw....I wonder what your player is capable of?

With the Bottlehead OTL and TOTL amps they work extremely well...the mids are there in spades and are a strong point with these cans IMO.

I hope you get to try them with other setups I think you will be surprised.

Good Luck!

The Lyr 2 is capable of 6 watts per channel (rated at 330 mw at 600 ohms per the manual), so amp power is certainly not the problem. They run the power-greedy HE-560 effortlessly It also has no problem with the DT880 600 ohm model.. Either these are defective or this is just about the worst headphone design I've ever run across. The highs and lows swamp everything and you have to strain to hear acoustic instruments and vocals. They're really, really bad. I'm going to let them continue to burn in over the weekend just in case but I expect they'll be going back to buydig after that. I've never been so grossly disappointed by a headphone purchase, and the cost just makes it that much worse. Free airline headphones sound better, and I mean that literally.

Burn in won't make things work here.
Have you tried the T1.2 on a different setup? Plug it into your laptop directly or something else, preferably solidstate.
Check how is the sound in case its markedly different from your tube setup.

T1.2 has a slight bass and upper treble boost with relatively softened upper midrange. Anyway, it's far from extreme in its tuning, which is still neutralish overall.
If you pair it with a system that's also u-shaped in terms of overall character then you'll get a sound that's probably too u-shaped for your preference and/or to make a good match.

I guess the T1.2 should work better on a Valhalla 2 than a Lyr 2.

There's always a chance your T1.2 is defective, but if it sounds fine through all frequencies, which means, undistorted, then best chances are it's just fine, and you don't like your current pairing. As with each and every quality headphone, pairing plays a role in what we hear. Play the silver HD800 on a dry and clinical setup and you'll think the headphone has one of the worst designs, on the other hand pair it with warm solidstate or warm tube setup and it can sound very well, you know.

Best Luck,
Me x3

buydig??

I am wondering if these are indeed real Beyer's or not???

Many, many people have these and have outstanding experiences with them...so either yours are indeed defective or they are not the real deal???

Either send them back to buydig or contact Beyer to get them "fixed".

This thing is beginning the smell IMO...

Buydig.com , I have bought more than a few things from them, including my television, FiiO X5iii, T90s and T1.2's, they are legit, and have some good deals.

The T1s are like an improved dt880 and it should sound like that. For me the T1 are only slightly U shaped and very close to neutral, so midrange aint that recessed. If you want more mids you should go for other cans.
Neutral won´t have any part of the frequencies recessed, neither anything will call too much fot attention. that its purpose.

Yes, I like the DT880, and was expecting an improved DT880. These are not that. As I said, you have to strain to hear acoustic instruments and vocals while the bass is overwhelming and the high treble is screeching. There's something very wrong here. They're not neutral in any way, shape or form.

Well, mine are scheduled for delivery tomorrow. I'm hopeful that my experience will be positive.

Your description of straining to hear acoustic instruments AND vocals is VERY, VERY different from what I have and am hearing with my T1V2's...they are absolutley stellar across a wide variety of music and amps. Schitt Vahalla 2, Bottlehead Crack and Bottlehead Mainline, O2's (several)....Lyr 1, Asgard and more.

Your cans have to have something terribly wrong with them if thats what your experiencing...what are you waiting for send them back to buydig.

Good luck.
Alex
