yeah, I guess you are part of the base of the fan base 🧞
Plus I'm surprised that @FredA uses a complementary device, i. e. clock which is even more expensive than the DAC itself...
break on through to the other side... the side where I stop thinking of changing gear because there won't be anything substantially "better" soon.
When i bought the clock, it was 3K.

That may have something to do with the low cost and good value of Audio-gd gear.

Good clocks are expensive, there is just no way around that.

And good clocks can drive your whole system, so maybe it's not so useful to compare the cost of a clock to one device.

I then remembered that the avplay hdmi was much sharper than the Gustard hdmi. So i took the Gustard out and the avplay in. Et voila ! Now i get a much sharper sound. With deeper bass as well.
I also have the two hdmi cables you mentioned and prefer the avplay.. I even made one more step further in the same direction and bought a silver USB made of very similar material: also sharp, liquid and delivers even more subbass.. requires rather long burn in time (initially a bit edgy), but totally worth it..

I know, it is not the same quality. I've had that avplay USB cable, but didn't quite like it and sold it.. it sounded veiled, lacked resolution significantly .. the tonality was quite similar though.. The one that I mentioned is thicker, much heavier and more sturdy.. It looks and feels like a factory product (with factory markings on the cable)..

You were probably listening to the sound without all the high frequency noise which you were used to, which was causing fake detail. The more noise you remove from your system, the darker it sounds.

What makes you believe that I had *all the high frequency noise* in my system and that I was *used to it*? )
