took a while for me to test the R7 2020 firmware vs the P2-dsdclck version

I like the bass and attack of the 2020 firmware on my 2019 R7HE, but the treble is too hot on what should be a warm-leaning listening set up (Glenn OTL amp with Mullard ECC32 driver, GEC 6AS7G power tubes and ZMF Verite).

Back to dsdclck version for me for now @FredA @JaMo

Same here. Too punchy for my tastes. But with the new DI, i might prefer the latest.

well, i only had a bit of issue with the treble, i like the rest of the dynamics

But since i have a 10 socket tube amp, i guess i could find a tube roll that will work with the 2020 firmware. just no time right now as i just want to chill and enjoy music after work.

i've also asked the local AGD dealer to get me a quote for the new DI, hope it's good.

cheers,
KJ

As for the hotness of the new firmware, I suspect it's Kingwa's attempt to compensate for his room. I've seen the FR plots of his room and there is a treble roll off. Manufacturer recommendations for his speakers is 5 degrees of axis for flat response but Kingwa likes to place his speakers so they fire down his room in a straight line, hence the treble roll off.

If enough people ask for it, Kingwa might add it to the regular version. It sure looks more high-end with it.

Yes. All of them are great values IMO as always with Kingwa's gears. I really like how Kingwa laid out the pci. Seems very optimal.

About the new DI-20, in what case would one go for the "Accusilicon 90/98M Edition" instead of the "Accusilicon 45/49M Edition"?

I read Kingwa's description but I'm a simpleton and it's slightly over-my-head.

You get lower jitter with the 90/98. They just cost more to purchase. But if you use an external clock, it does not matter. The internal ones have no impact on sound quality then.

Funny, that's how I have my speakers set up (save for a couple degrees of toe-in).

I already requested a quote.

Are you getting the HE/regen version? Either way, I'm looking forward to your impressions.

So in my case I would be connecting my Mac to the DI-20 via USB, then i2s to my R1.

No external clock in that chain, correct?
The external clock is an external unit from other vendors, there are many possibilities for all budgets. It is a path to a future upgrade. And i will test both the external one i have and the internal when i get my unit.
