New Audio-gd DAC-19 [10th Anniversary Edition]
May 27, 2016 at 5:48 PM Post #1,456 of 1,962
Anywhere in the states that can upgrade the DAC19 10th anniversary to DAC19 NOS? I'm out in Colorado and I don't want to ship to China. Otherwise I'm thinking of buying a new NOS-19 and selling my old one. Thanks.

Hmm, I thought the Anniversary Edition is the newest one. What is the NOS? Tried to google it but nothing came up.

For AGD's PCM1704 lineup Kingwa has developed a new DSP to better suit NOS operation. Even though the non-NOS lineup can be operated in NOS mode using the jumpers the sound is different because of the new DSP. It's more of a side grade than an upgrade and he warns that not everyone will prefer the sound of the NOS model.

Yes, it has a TOSLINK optical input.  I chain my Omni to the DAC-19 for PC surround gaming.

Not sure that's what was being asked in the context of my quoted text. :confused_face_2:

One of those days......

I asked as in I really liked the DAC19 when I heard it, my current R2R DAC is limited in input/source options because it only has Coax.

Yeah, apologies. Having a thick headed day.

As Stillhart kindly already answered, yes it has optical input along with the coaxial and USB input.

Yep, after nearly a year with the Dac-19 10th anniversary/Amanero Combo I'm still enjoying it. That said, I have two nagging issues left to conquer specifically with respect to the DAC (since external factors such as amp, headphones/speaker, and RCA interconnects are not directly related):

A) I'm still curious what it would be like with a really high end transport as source into the coax, versus the USB... But I may never know, unless I fork out some dough for such a transport.

B) Still trying to figure out how to get really amazing streaming quality, since I find that supposedly lossless sites like Tidal and Classics Online HD*LL both sound slightly less good than regular bit accurate methods of listening to flac or wav files on my computer (i.e. by bypassing any kind of OS filter with ASIO or KS).

Uhg. It's official, my DAC-19 is for sale simply because I'm moving up the ladder. Will miss it...

What are you upgrading to?
Nos19?
Or even better?

I'm not convinced that the NOS line is supposed to be an upgrade.  I thought it was just a flavor difference...?

Yeah, that's what I feel as well, especially after considering how carefully AGD words their description of the NOS line. The DAC-19 is really a special DAC in my opinion and my upgrade path would need to far exceed a minor bump/difference in quality for me to consider selling it.
