New Audeze LCD3
Feb 28, 2012 at 8:33 PM Post #4,111 of 11,521
Almost all the initial impressions I read, concerning the LCD-3, made note of the 'vastly improved' soundstage. I was a little baffled, as I came from LCD-2's as most 3 owners did, and just didn't see that much of an improvement with any of my recordings, apart from a binaural recording recommended by another head-fier.

Well, today I traded in my Power Plant Premier regenerator for a new P5 regenerator, and I'm blown away! The soundstage has vastly expanded, instrument separation is articulate and clear, and the background is blacker than I thought was possible, where I previously thought the background 'hiss' was just inherent of a poor recording. I have no affiliation with PS Audio, but couldn't resist spreading my elation of how happy I am with this product. Your mileage will definitely vary, especially because I live in an older home and the power is very, very, noisy.

^^^
I did the same with my PPP for a P5, don't really know if that made much of a difference with the sound-stage of the LCD3 I had, but everything I hear is using the Binaural recording technique.
Anyway imo yes the LCD3 has a very nice sound-stage, using my rig.

Just sent in my pair of LCD-3s for RMA since the screws are getting a bit rusty (probably the humidity here in Singapore but I'm a tad dissapointed about it) Anyway, asked Audez'e to have a look at my drivers too, just to confirm that my LCD-3 is functioning to it's intended potential.

Do they even cover for rusty screws? That's a bit too nice.

Nice? Rusting screws in a $2,000 headphones is ridiculous IMO.

There are plenty of materials that don't rust, regardless of the environment. I would've expected one of them to be used in a $2000 pair of headphones.

Agree! That was my point.

Didn't that say that they "went all the way, with no compromises" or something like that?
To me the whole headphone seems like  a big compromise. Build it fast, cut down on the testing period, and start selling and ship as fast as possible..
I really want the Audeze sound but with all this... I don't know anymore, it's just too many problems. :frowning2:

I would certainly wait to get one until all this is over.

This is definitely one of the biggest improvements over the LCD-2s. I'm hearing sound staging in my rig that competes with my T1s (and slightly better than my now sold HE-6s). I thought this was a limitation of orthos, but I guess not.

I advise anyone to wait. You deserve the very best for $2000 and no problems.

Well, yes and no. If you're not the "early adopter" type and want a bulletproof $2000 headphone, then yes, do wait. They're doing much better but are not quite there yet.

If, on the other hand, you want to be part of the early-adopting community that helps perfect the LCD-3 -- and you're willing to ante up $2k to be part of that process -- then you might not wait. Based upon what I've experienced personally with Audez'e, there's next to no chance that you'll end up stuck with something you don't like or don't think is really worth the money.

Would it be better for Audez'e to use an extensive beta-testing process that identifies potential problems before "final" samples are shipped to customers? Probably yes. Not everyone is excited about the idea of spending two grand for a 95% finished product that they need to help troubleshoot. In addition, the average consumer probably does not understand that this is a pretty common occurrence as an early-adopter of a boutique product in a niche industry. Nevertheless, if you're the adventurous type and don't mind shipping your headphones back and forth a few times, you might find that you like being part of the process of helping to improve a flagship product for everyone's enjoyment.

Well, of course, if you have the money and something else to listen to, go right ahead. I see what you're saying, help the Audeze community. I completely understand.

But, let me tell you. When I put my 3 Grand+ for my LCD-2/V200/Rega, I was SO SICK of my bland sound from my ULTRASONE PRO 550. I was dying from boredom. I waited a while for the money.

If I had to wait 6 weeks for a repair after I ordered them, I may have killed someone from stress (and there are a lot of drug dealers in RI so a lot to kill!

). I researched everything before I purchased so I expected them to not have any problems and they do not. Of course, audio gear may ship-in broken but it's rear.

So I see where you're coming from and you can see where I am coming from.
