Inside track?  What AKG's have you actually heard?

I have owned these vintage models:  Silver K140, K141, 3 different K240 Sextetts, K270 Playback, K280 Parabolic, K340, K400, K401, K500, K501
And these current models: K701 and K81dj
And I have heard the K1000, K240s, K240M, K181, and probably some others I'm forgetting.

So I don't exactly "hate AKG"

Wow, just listened to 3 songs by this 'Tiesto'.  I'm freaking bored out of my mind.  Not hearing the magic tbh.  Hope the phones are better.

His earlier stuff is better than most of his later stuff, though some of the more recent collaborations he's done are quite good.  He isn't exactly a shining example of an excellent DJ though, he is simply a really popular one (or at least he was back in the day).  Think David Guetta except not as ****ty.

tiesto still not that good. he has couple decent tracks. i have no idea how he became popular. armin van buuren is as somewhat popular but atleast lot of his stuff sounds good and i like it and think he's an overall much better dj and producer. all i see tiesto as is just basically a pop cultural idol.

Armin van Buuren has some pretty excellent stuff.  Not all of his music is equally good, but he at least has made a lot of great tracks and many trance classics.

A good new artist (or group of artists, though they never actually say this) is Dash Berlin, some of their music is pretty amazing!

Has no one heard the 181,81,and581?

I basically alluded to that in my post. They can make it sure, is it a weird concept? Kinda, since they decades making neutral headphones that were pretty dang good. If I can make another analogy, it's kind of like an upscale restaurant making a fast food chain. Can they do it? Definitely. Will they make exponentially more money from the venture? Probably. It's certainly a weird concept though. And I don't mean to give the impression that bassy headphones are considered the equivalent fast food.

And I have immense respect for AKG. In fact, I have an old K4 that I've been going through a ridiculous amount of effort in restoring since their headband snapped, I've continually been trying to make a headphone based on the merits of the K1000, and I'd openly admit to liking my Realistic Pro 50 more than my DT48 for a lot of music.

the AKG K701 is a great headphone. i have owned three of them. i use it almost every night out of my Eddie Current Balancing Act. i wouldn't bother with any of the newer AKG models.

It's not like AKG never built a bassy headphone. Anyone heard the latest K240 MKII? This thing is the very definition of "bloated bass".

But still, these Tiesto headphones are closed cans, and I never heard a closed AKG. Tiesto's music isn't all about bass either, so those probably won't have the same signature as Beats. Or at least I hope so.

And my curiosity still aches under the unknown method used to change the sound of the headphone with a physical switch on the cup itself. Can't wait for someone to take these apart and see what this switch actually does.

I bet you it's bass ports. I bet the the switch changes the size of the hole. I'm calling it.

For all intents and purposes, these are essentially the first real response to the Beats by a decent audio company.
