Seconded on that. V-moda M-80s. Some of the nicest looking headphones out there IMO. They sound great too, slightly rolled off highs, but great nonetheless. They can be found for about 130$ used if you look, so a bit over budget, but they're definitely worth it.

No!
Get these. Trust me. Much better sound than any "cool" portable.
Jvc ha-s400 (japan import only See amazon)

I have the s500 which has a slightly larger drive but everyone ive seen with the s400 say the sound as good as s500.

Okay, those look pretty sweet for under $30 on amazon. Looks like a good gift option. How would you describe the sound signature?

what about the the sol republic tracks or the soul sl100s

SL100 is lacking some detail and I read that it isn't particularly comfortable. I can vouch for the Tracks as a decent option. Has a Beats-esque sound and is quite well made. All parts are replaceable. I would also consider Tracks HD. Slightly improved sound and aluminum earcups for another $30. The fit might feel weird for you though, so try them on first. Also, I second the M-80 as a great-sounding, stylish headphone. Hope this helps.

I was also looking for headphone under $30. I am a little bit confused on what to pick the S400 or the Monoprice 8323? My main concern is the pads. I am really concerned about the sweating issue with the pads as it's quite hot where I stay.

Also I can't find a head to head comparison on which ones sound better?

Any suggestions?

The s400 is gunna have the edge on sound. The sweat factor will be less due to the on ear design. The over ear design of the monoprice will trap more heat. plus you can get them in white which technically should make a difference in the sun :D
