I'm looking for some headphones around $50 (though i am willing to go more) for listening to trance/rock/mainstream stuff. I listen to trance the most, then rock, followed lastly by radio stuff.
 
Looking for circumaural headphones. I don't really mind closed or open either. And I listen to music when im at the gym on my ipod nano as well as on my laptop. So i'd prefer something portable that still allows me a couple hours of battery life on my ipod.
 
Right now I'm thinking Sennheiser 201s but i'm new to headphones in general.

HD201 would not work very well for trance, lack of impactful bass for trance IMO.
 
Koss KSC-75 is in the same price bracket as the HD201 but will demolish them in trance/rock since it has more bass/impact and just a very enjoyable set to listen to putting the price into consideration.
 
Maxell DHP-II - blows away my KSC-75 but cost $40ish vs $15 for the Koss. Beat it in everything. Only downside is in MY EXPERIENCE they have quality control issues. (went through 3 pairs until I gave up and fixed the drivers myself)
 
Yes I own both of these headphones and yes I listen to trance 95% of the time.
