I will mainly use it for listening to music and studio music recording (Not as important)

So far I've looked at:

  1. Philips SHP8500

  2. Sony MDR-XD200
  3. Sennheiser HD 202

  4. Philips SHP2500

But after reading a few reviews, all of them have at least one flaw; whether its durability or sound quality

Could anyone point me towards what to get? or maybe even suggest another pair of headphones other than the ones I listed?

Again, I'm looking for headphones from $30 to $65.

Thanks

Yeah, those were another pair I was looking at.

There are just so many in that price range that look mediocre.

I wish an expert would just point to me to the best one at that price range.

I would lean more towards the HD202.

Not too many "experts" are going to spend time using/reviewing $30-$40 (full size) headphones.
But the JVC RX700s seem to be the best bang for the buck headphones.
I would assume at this price range durability is the same for most brands.
I almost bought the Philips 8500s, but decided to spend $125 for the Audio Technica ATH-AD700
I still own the Philips SHP2500s, 20' cord and built in volume control,
good value at $20 mail order.

Would you choose the JVC RX700 over the Phillips SHP2500s?

And is JVC a good brand? I've always thought they were the lower quality ones. I have no idea though...j/w

I would rather spend $38 for the RX700 over the $20 for the SHP2500.
I believe JVC quality is just as good as other brands.

So I just saw a youtube review of the JVC RX700. The thing is humongous. I was about to buy it, but the headphones are way too bulky. I'm looking to walk around listening to music in public.

Does anyone want to recommend different headphones?

The Audio Technica ATH-M30's are also a good choice... it's about $70% the performance of the M50's. You don't get the low-low bass, or nearly as much isolation (could be a plus or a minus, depending on preference), but you also don't have to shell out $110.

I have a pair of Sony MDR V300.  They are pretty bad.  Mid range is OK, missing lows.  A bit harsh.  I have used them for watching TV - can't stand them for music.

My recommendation for $30 - look for a set of refurbished Sennheiser HD 428.  There are plenty of them on Ebay for $30.  Way better than a $30 headphone.
