My new Woo Audio WA5-LE "The Black Beauty"
Aug 24, 2010 at 9:11 AM Post #61 of 112
I love the black beauty, she's gorgeous.

Just wondering, I really think one of these WA5's are for me, but after full upgrades, won't the Carey 300b cost about the same - except the Carey has a remote control.  Does anyone have an opinion on this?

which one do you prefer for t1?  SE with wa5 or balanced with rp010b?

I am still using the adapter for now because I think it does not make a big audible difference and I can still use the T1 in balance with my RP010B. With the RP010B balance makes a big difference compared to SE.

Yes, thats what I use exclusively with my WA5 amp.  I used to have a T1 and HD800 hooked up to this amp and finally sold them all off in favor of the LCD-2.  It sounds sublime out of the WA5 and is a very revealing headphone...where I can tweak a lot of small things like cables and tubes and immediately hear the difference in the presentation.  The HD800, even though it was better at certain things, just wasn't enjoyable for me to listen to and I just didn't get sucked into the music as much as with the LCD-2.

I guess I'm going to have to ask.  Has anyone tried the LCD2s on the WA5?

I'm also next on the HE-6 loaner program, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the amp powers those headphones out of the speaker outputs or the K1000 output.  Should be a fun comparison with the LCD-2 :)

Wow, good to know. The LCD-2 is on my purchase list for a while but I think it's time to save the funding for this phone now.

Yes, always remember that headphones will make the most difference in terms of price compared to upgrades or tubes.  I felt like I spento too much time and money on super expensive tubes and cables to try to compensate things that bothered me with the HD800, while I would have been better off just switching headphones.

That is exactly on my mind too. I feel enmotionally attach to music with LCD-2

I am most interested in this face-off. You should make new thread when reviewing

I believe that this will be my next headphone purchase. I shall start a LCD-2 piggy bank.

I've narrowed my next big amp purchase to either one of the Cavalli amps (stacker2, LG, LF) or the WA5 for LCD2. Leaning towards the WA5 though, it's a beautiful piece of art in itself and who knows when the Cavalli amps will be commercially available?

I would put my money on the liquid fire over other two. I was lucky to hear all three with LCD-2 for good amount of time at Portland meet. LF had only JJ tube in there, already impressive. The only thing I can pick out is soundstage could be little larger would be nice. If with HD800, of course that not a issue. NOS tube could be the fix also.

That's how I felt, I spent all this cash on cables, and power cables and power conditioning - to improve the HD650 - because tonally the HD800s didn't suit me at that time.  Spent 3X more on these accessories than on the LCD2s - only to feel a little What.  I guess I would've went through the same thing when I eventually will try to make absolute use of the LCD2s full potential - thats how I console myself!!!

I look forward to following your journey with the HE6.

IMO the T1 sound much better SE wi the WA5-LE than balanced with the RP010B. It's not like they don't sound good with the Rudi. If you don't compare them side by side you would think they sound great but when used with the WA5-LE they go to a totally different level.

Good to know monsieurguzel. Thread is waiting for his anytime soon. As soon as he gets them we will try them in my WA5-LE but based on your comments I guess I should be preparing my wallet.
