I recently heard the Manley with a very expensive Esoteric CD player, and it was sublime.  The sound was pretty dynamic and 3-dimensional (although not as dynamic as the Woo).
 
At its price, which is nearly half of the Manley, the Woo is really hard to beat.  It's just so damn big!
 

 

I don't remember the source Todd had there but I can tell you that the Pinnacle was using the big Meridian universal player from the 800 series and at $10,000 for the Pinnacle I will take the Woo any day. The Pinnacle sounded good but I though the Woo sounded better and the Woo was using a Chinese made CD player not even the top of the line.

In th elast few days I did a little bit of rolling hte driver tubes. First I went from the Treasure CV181Z to a NOS TungSol BG RP 6SN7GT. With the TugSol the sound got a sweeter but boderline dark to my taste and also lost some dynimics then yesterday went to a pair of NOS BG RP TungSol 6F8G with adapters. The dynamics came back, that high frequencies got better tha nthe 6SN7 but keeping some sweetnes compared to the Treasure and got alot of nice air in between instuments and voices. Based on my taste I think I like the 6F8G the best followed by the CV181 and the the 6SN7 but is goo to have the 3 of them since they are different flavors.
 
I shipped back to Jack the Shopia rectifiers that I received by mistake but I have not yet receive my EML rectifiers so I bought a new pair of cheap Electroharmonix. I was not expecting the sound to change much since they are rectifiers in the power supply unit but it did. it got some kind of harsh and they have a small physical buzz. You don't hear it in the sound but close to the amplifier you can hear it.
Since I was not happy with the Electroharmonix I looked areounf for a NOS pair and found a pair of NOS RCA JAN 5U4GB coke bottle shape. Those are nice and will be a good back up for my EML when they arrive.
 
I'll update when I receive my EML 5u4G Mesh tubes.

I had a similar experience between the treasures and the TS round plates.  The Treasures do sound a little cleaner with better dynamics but missing some of the body and bass of the Tung Sols.  I could see how depending on the headphone / music you listen to, changing tubes can tweak the sound enought to make everything sound great in all circumstances.  From my experience the HD800s benefit from the Tung Sols a lot, while the LCD-2 can get a little too bass emphasized with them (but still extremely addictive to listen to).

Were did you get those TSRP? My experience is just the opposite the TSRP gives me more dynamics more bass impact, sweeter highs, cleaner and more air than the CV181V's. I had a pair of Treasure 300B and a pair of EML 5U4Gs in my Woo at the time.
And like monsieurguzel says maybe its are HD-800s that bring out the best in the TSRP's.

interesting post to me because i've read so much about how good a balanced rig sound and you guys are talking about how great wa5 is, wa5 isn't new but, people still loving it.  new people and old people so i assume this wa5 must be something good.

I got both pairs (6SN7 and 6F8G from the same source at the same time. Don't get me wrong the 6SN7 sound very good too but I guess is just difference on taste. By the way I was listening to my HD800.

When listening to HD800s I do agree with Sillysally that the CV181s are a little bit too bright and at time shrill for my tastes....which is why the TS 6SN7 was a good way make the sound more full bodied and deeper.  Now in terms of the Beyer T1 though, I have no idea.

With going back mainly to single ended, did you have your T1 reterminated or are you still using the Zeus adapter you had Robert make?

Ouch.  I too felt $10k was pretty dam insane.  What are the components to justify at least half of the cost?

I am still using the adapter for now because I think it does not make a big audible difference and I can still use the T1 in balance with my RP010B. With the RP010B balance makes a big difference compared to SE.

Most of the extra money is due to the electronic part upgrade and the tubes upgrade. Just the tubes upgrade was $1,320.

Well you are almost there, now what you need for your sacd/dvd-a or blu ray M/C 5.1/7.1 DSD music and movie's is a SVS Realiser and a visit to AIX sound studio to capture there very very high end 5.1/7.1 sound system and room acustics. Or any $100,000+++ sound system, so that way you will have that sound system in your "man cave" coming from your Woo and HD-800's that sound like you are still at AIX.
Its a mind blower.
