The black ones are a synthetic felt, the white is not a felt per se though it looks it (and that's enough said on that... :wink_face:  ).

Probably more accurate than used poker felt from trump's casino, died black with squid ink. The white ones bleached by being left out in the Las Vegas sun, then softened with the tears of Vegas gamblers who lost it all before they were able to us ethers.

LMAO.  I had 30 years in marketing, but I made a commitment to minimize marketing speak and do my best to just say it like I hear it and describe it like it is, and not use marketing speak.  
 
Maybe this will cost us sales, but I hope most people will appreciate direct answers and accurate info. Of course there are questions I won't answer because it is a trade secret, and we do have those, but otherwise I try to be direct. 
 
If someone is going to form negative preconceptions about our product based on the materials instead of listening, that's their choice.  We are very careful about what materials we use and why, that's our job, but there are millions of materials in the world, and we can't try them all so if anyone has time to make tuning parts from fairy wings steeped in Unicorn farts and it works, drop a note and share. I'm always interested if someone has ideas they'd like to share that improve the product.  We always listen...

We did when we started 3 years ago, but for a long time now we've been using industrial suppliers who produce materials to our requirements and we buy in large bolts of material, several hundred pounds at a time these days.  That said the black felt is very similar to a craft felt.  On the other hand the white stuff is unicorn hair trimmings.

Btw, I will soon be receiving my own pair of Mr. Speakers headphones for the next few months.  A very very very nice guy in these forums, @inthere, is going to be lending me his Alpha Dogs, becuaase he is now the proud owner of a new pair of Ether C's himself.  I'm excited! Depending on how much I like the Alpha Dogs in the long-term, it will help me decide once and for all if I am going to make the Alpha Prime or Ether C my eventual "endgame" headphones.

Wait until you try old socks.  Don't wash them though, that reduces the sound quality.

Still can't get over the temptation to purchase these beauties. Can anyone comment on the sound compared to the TH900?
 
I'm assuming it won't have as much thump as the TH900 considering the TH900 V-shape sound signature but after listening to HD800's and LS50 speakers for a while, I think my tastes are moving over to the more neutral side anyways. I do listen to a lot of EDM and some hip-hop once in a while, so some thump when the music calls for it would still be appreciated.

I think the Ether C might just be the one for you. It's more like neutral-plus, not as bright as the HD800 and have a more pronounced bottom end but in terms of detail retrieval and resolution I think both are comparable.
 
I compared the two in balance configuration and while I felt the TH900 is more euphonic and has a more engaging bass I also felt that the soundstage of the Ether C is wider, C more detailed with a more neutral sound signature.

I don't think the Ether C is a slouch in terms of resolution, but I think the HD800 still has a clear advantage for resolution.
