Looking at the page it looks like it is new, rather than a mod, depends on how you interpret "ETHER is built around MrSpeakers designed single-ended planar driver."
 
Not completely sure on that though, it could be just a fantastic improvement on their present drivers.  I have to say that it looks pretty neat, but at that price point they are up against some top notch competition.

Yeah, I saw the email and all the talk about avoiding audiophile limbo-jumbo and hoed (rather vainly) that that would also mean a non-audiophile price tag. Alas, to no avail...

The rings are 3d printed and finished to the same exacting standards as our Alpha line of headphones. The rest of the cup is machined aluminum.
