most fun to me? as to my current lineup: hd 650, dt990 and dt880, i'd be a toss up between the dt990 and the hd650. if it was vocal-centric music (john mayer / michael jackson / christopher cross), it would be the hd650 for sure just because of the eerie way they do vocals (sends chills up my spine sometimes). dt990 when i want the bass and cymbals to stand out above anything else, generally that's jazz / rock / metal for me...

as to what i have owned, i would say the alessandro ms2i. when i put this on i can't do anything else but listen to music. i had to let them go because of listening fatigue though...

Would have to be the HD650 for me.

I mostly listen to jazz, chillout, alternative and lounge.

If you bad a bad source...yes they can sound painful.

yes i agree 101% Garbage In= Garbage Out.

And DT990's really emphasize on the source - the most IMHO.

you don't need an ultra warm dac, but as long as it is smooth, detailed and not too forward, you should have no problem with their treble

I dont think the dt990/600 is any fun at all, if TheWuss and DavidM's words are to taken into account
dt990/600''s sound PAINFUL

just a thought, the thread is about what is the most fun and musical headphones to the personal user i.e. individual preferences, not really about what someone disagrees with because again, it's all subjective and relative and that discussion would stray off the topic

Yeah...whats good for one, not good for another. But here we can say what we like.
Personally, i like the HD600's and Akg K701's.

Under 100: Denon D1001/Aurvana Live. Lively, slightly warm and oh so musical and fun. Especially with some EQ this is an amazing headphone. I call this one my miniature LCD-2 rev1!

Under 500: HD600/650. Organic, natural, no fatigue. Great bass. Superb allrounders.

Under 2000: LCD-3 > LCD-2.1> Grado RS1 >Denon D7000
Nothing touches the LCD-3 when combining transparency, detail, soundstage and musicality, but i demands very good music to shine. Music just flow like with no other headphone I've heard.
The LCD-2 rev1 can me better for stuff like Beatles and Rolling Stones. Here is also where the RS1 comes in. Amazing rock headphone. Denon is also a great deal of fun. Depending on the mood all these headphones can be no1 some days.
