Monster i respect for their earphones and cables, however it think that the cables are occasionally a little overpriced. Monster definitely know what they are doing, but they are running the market in a commercial way (if you know what i mean, everything is massed produced) and there's always those little tiny things they miss at times. Where as Bose, in my view is just a complete waste of money, charging grands for micro sized systems that sound no wear near as good a small, low-range systems offered at a fraction of the price from other leading brands like Paradigm etc.

No. These are the Monster Turbines, as per the thread title. By most accounts, they offer a much better sound and a much better value than the Beats by Dre.

Picked up the Turbines today
Out of the box very good sound !
Plugged in to the ipod nice full sound
I own the Beats by Dr.Dre also, but the Turbines are very different
The Bass is full and nice , the mids are very good, the high's are sparkling
The Dr.Dre's Bass is heavy with more high and mid, i like them for classical music and new age.
the Turbines are great for my Pink Floyd collection

I personally hated the sound of the Dr Dre Studio headphones. Do these Turbines sound similar to the Dr Dre in the way that the bass overwhelms everything?

I am seriously tempted to pick one up to try. Does anybody know when the Turbine with ControlTalk cable will come out?

No, the bass on the Turbines is accentuated, but in no way overwhelms the midrange or treble. The Turbines to me are very balanced and very resolving, with a bit of warmth that adds to the music, not hurt it.

I'll wait till Futureshop has these for $99 to pick one up. Meanwhile the SE210 will suffice (not the best, but definitely the most comfortable imo).

But then, I'm the type of person who thinks the SE210 bass is somewhat sufficient, so I'm just worried that there will be overwhelming bass for Turbine. I personally prefer mids and trebles and clear vocal over loud bass.

After an initial burnin of about 20hrs the bass settles down with the MTB and over the next 80 hrs of burnin the midrange and treble get better and the bass continues to settle down. I no longer own the MTB but did find the bass never interfeared with the treble and midrange.

MaoDi, The same thing can be said for every earphone vendor unless you really get into high end designers like Final Audio Design. Every earphone is mass-produced, at least from our favourites at headfi: Westone, UE, Sennheiser - in fact they sell more headphones than monster do and ever will. Every company are commercial - they have to be. If they were not, no one would buy them. Some smaller companies like Westone don't have the same amount of dosh to sling around and so they do headfi and other forums extensively. But brands like Senn, UE, Sony, victor - market at least as much as Monster, and with auspiciously eschewed claims.

Monster are certainly not alone when it comes to commercialising their products.

Yes, but Monster is definitely way more invasive in their marketing - not with all the gaudy magazine ads like Bose employs, but I notice MUCH more big-box stores' attention devoted to them - namely, Future Shop, than, say, Shure or Ultimate Ears, both of which are also available at the same store. Anyone who's visited a Future Shop/Best Buy recently will probably have noticed a display case of Monster headphones, and maybe a stand to demo the Beats Studio, with one or two pairs and a jack to plug your own 'phones in (which employs many tricks to flatter their sound, I must add - high volume and appropriate music included). I guess they weren't expecting a guy to plug his earphones in and remain unconvinced, though - my ER6s trounced the Beats on treble extension, and overall detail and precision.

This marketing seems to pay off, though - I see few real headphones in general most of the time, but I've seen a few pairs of Beats Studio headphones, as opposed to no pairs at all from Shure or UE. I can't say I particularly have a problem with that, but it's a shame that consumers (I think of our type as 'pro-sumers') choose the overpriced Beats over the excellent SRH440/840s.

While I'm at it, my opinion on the new Turbines I got is mostly positive: I'd approximate they have at least 40-50 hours on them if not way more in the weeks since Christmas. Bass extension and power is superb, and I love the impact of drums and tone of guitars through them. There's not as much detail as I'd like, but I'm not very concerned, especially if the bass continues to settle down like dweaver says. However, suffice to say, the cable is crap, and a bit of fraying has occurred in the Y-split. Monster seems to have a decent replacement program, though, so when the connections bail on me I should be able to get a new pair.

Nonetheless, I still like them a lot, going so far as to post a review of them that should be, well, somewhere on this forum.

Monster probably offers better margins or more spiffs for stores than some of the other brands out there. Having said that I do see Shure HP's as often as I do Monster HP's in store, they just don't go on sale as often. But I have only seen low end UE stuff at Future Shop. As for other brands like Klipsch I have only seen them at London Drugs in Canada, and I have only seen lower end Sennheiser stuff in any retail chain store in Canada. Personally though I don't blame this on the manufacturer (certainly not just Monster) as this seems to be the norm for run of the mill retail stores as they only cater to the lowest common denominator and rely on the manufacturers to "market" everything so they don't have to have staff that know anything about the products they sell. The staff is then trained on sales technique versus product knowledge. I can't tell you how many times I will have a salesman try to sell me the crap on their shelves, often overlooking the few actual good products they carry in favour for namebrand recognition stuff or simply pretty items. The few times I have actually got them to listen to one of my headphone/iem's they have always been amazed, they are then really amazed when they find out that my stuff often costs even less that the average stuff they have on their shelves.

By the way, they are very good. I finally got a lot more time than I had hoped for with them yesterday after finishing the MEElectronics R-1 review. The are better resolved than the Turbine with even faster bass. The same great mid section still reigns, and upper extension feels even better.

The contruction quality has gone up a couple of notches, leading me to expect these earphones to last a long time. Monster have more than listened to the complaints in this thread, fixed the problems, and upgraded the sound of the Turbine in the Pro making it an earphone I really think is worth its asking price.

Great to hear! I'm really eager to get my hands on these (if/when I can unload my W3). Are you finding the Pros to be as free of harshness as the orginal Turbines? That's one of the things I've really enjoyed about the orginals -- the way vocals played through them manage to be present and lively without being harsh. I'd still be using them regularly if I didn't find the bass too overpowering when paired with my Fuze (they're perfect with my v1 e280, though).
