Remove the wood caps, four screws. Then you will be met by 3 felts. One large one that covers the size of the wood caps. Leave that one inside the caps. There will be two smaller round felt filters, remove those two, leave them out. Put back the wood caps and see if you prefer the new sound.

I had a brain fart and thought it was the trinity thread. :) I've done exactly that and also modified the white filter on top of the driver. It REALLY opened up the sound. :)

You mean the white tape behind the driver? Did you peel it off? Or made slits?

Aether

And finally a band that really brings out the speed and power of the m1060s is Gojira

Dang! Great songs, I'm writing them down to download or find their CDs to rip. Thanks

That's what I thought, what kind of sound did you achieve vs removing only the two smallest felts which is what I did?

Went and listened to some LCD2's today by accident. Shop I visit once in awhile started carrying them. I can see how people kinda compare the M1060's to them. I might bring my M1060's so I can listen with the same equipment, a Woo WA5.

What was cool as I got to listen to these planars. Magnepan 30.7's....

Well after going back and forth between HE-400i and the M1060 as I could only keep one, I ended up picking the M1060. I did a carp load of AB tests and must of listened to 48 hours of music, both vinyl and digital and about 12 hours of gaming. The M1060 for me was the better of the two, even taking into account the $200 I paid for the HE-400i's. The best way I can explain these two are that the HE-400i sounding like listening to music in a tile kitchen and the M1060 was more like a wood and carpeted room. The M1060 had a more natural analog sound with more punch to the bass. Vocals also sounded more natural and personal.
