Meze EMPYREAN - the First Isodynamic Hybrid Array Headphone

How about LCD-4?

In all fairness, it sounds pretty darn like a flagship, but I'd say that it is what I call pretty darn transparent to the sound it is being fed
I suppose a manufacturer's most expensive headphone is its "flagship" regardless of what it does. But for me, I'd hope it makes an attempt at a balanced sound overall.

I’m interested in those, too, but I haven’t even heard the regular LCD 4 yet. I’m also a little worried about the extremely low impedance. I feel like it’s overkill. With very low impedance, the driver can be prone to distortion and won’t be able to move as fast.

I haven't heard the original either but they certainly look like they are worth a listen. I need to go to Audio Sanctuary and demo all of these at some point really.

As far as driver impedance goes I honestly don't know enough technically information to know what an issue this is. I do know that things like the Shure SE846 can have amp incompatibilities due to their low impedance but they are completely different driver types.

Speaking from personal experience, even if it is a spread of 50/50 you still learn why half of people liked the one prototype and why people liked the other prototype.

People could of liked the bass on 1 and the Soundstage on 2. They can then take this data and make another headphone with a tuning in the middle and getting feedback again.
Yo Alan!

I didn't make it to CanJam SoCal sadly :(. Did Meze have anything at their booth for people to be able write or type their comments down about the Empyrean? Just curious about that. It would let them read the info at another date and analyze it.

Yo Craig!

Not sure if Meze had a way to take feedback on the prototype at the show, was stuck in our booth pretty much the whole time :frowning2:.They are pretty active on Head-Fi and i would think hearing long formed impressions on Head-Fi would also be handy since I always feel crunched for time at shows.

I'm thinking it gets pushed back a bit while they decide on a sound signature.

At this price point.... it's definitely not a "reference" headphone like the hd800. Very V-shaped, but also with a rolled off treble and mid bass seemed to be emphasized.

It sounded like a suped up HE500. TBH, @ $3000 they were asking, why not get a SR009? It's not in the same league. With that much money you could also buy a sweet speaker rig.

Interesting take on their sound. Your description is almost the polar opposite of what most others have said. The majority of people who have heard it (I have not) say they were most impressed by the amazing mids. Many say that the mids were the star of the show.

yea it's been awhile but somewhere around upper/mid bass was emphasized. I don't think I would call it "amazing" at this asking price. At this much money you better stomp the show.
