You should have tried my GS1k jumbos on the HF-2s.

But the GS1k still beats the HF-2s on fine details and instrument seperation. Both cans are bass heavy but the GS1k bass kicks alot deeper and is much better defined than the HF-2 (which sounds slightly bloated in comparison).

A recable would help!

Collagen should probably find out what his mate did to his HF-2s!

Yup. I used to have them. They were nice, but sounded great only when well amped. Out of my ipod, they sounded very poor. I reckon there is some sort of impedance mismatch between the ER4P and iPod.

I have a pair of iM616, which I think are just as good as the ER4P (from my side by side comparisons). Astounding value. They are more neutral than the ER4P - perhaps they are like the ER4S, and they also sound good ONLY when well amped, IMO. They sound GREAT out of the Auditor (with an attenuator) - but it's a bit weird listening to IEMs out of big desktop amps. I prefer the full-sized headphones when at home anyway. The iM616's treble is very good for an IEM. But I reckon the RE0 are at least as good in the treble, perhaps better. It's hard to tell.

Yes...since I use amps most of the time, I am looking for a old version ER4B to buy
tongue.gif

ummm I should try your iM616 next time.
BTW, Have u tried Q-JAYS before? I was deciding between ER4P and QJAYS when I bought ER4P.

At the end of the meet, I looked at your GS1000's and I remembered I have always wanted to try Jumbos on the HF-2. But at that point in time someone was listening to them and I had to leave anyway

Great meet.

Unfortunately, I spent more time doing admin (letting people in and out) and socialising than I did listening to rigs.

One issue is the difficulty at doing an A-B comparison between amps (just too hard to keep moving amps around).

Otherwise, it was good.

Sadly, I didn't get the opportunity to try Yukari's selection of IEMs (forgot my tips) and amps (no time!).

Some standouts include:

The Beyer T1 via the Trafomatic Head One. Excellent clarity, instrument and voice seperation, good bass (but not bassy), very solid tones.

Collagen has a recabled HF-2s that were really much better than stock. From memory, the bass was less muddy (with similar kick). The mids and highs were clearer. Sadly, he said he mate recabled it but didn't know exactly what cables were used.

Would have liked to spend more time on the MAD.

The Cavelli CTH was a surprising match with the Grados. So much so that Duckman (Dave) lent it to me. Going to do more extensive listening.

The Burson HA160 resolved music with alot of clarity and had enough power for high-impedence cans but the ground loop issue bugged it and I thought the sound was a little too cold and analytical.

At the end of the day, I left not with gear envy, but with the realization/confirmation that I am actually VERY happy with my rig. We can chase the upgrades but I think I'll just stop and listen to the music even more.

Shawn, I feel the same. Admin and socialising.
But I am still quite happy for things I've tried.

Ummmm althought I am thinking to sell a few of my iems, but probably would still have a few nice little ones to keep in my collection =)

I am hoping to sell ER6i, wm-2 (although would be difficult to sell I think), and still deciding whether to sell PFE and X10 or not....umm well, I don't think I will spend much time listening to them, but they seems to be rare in AUS....LOL

Collagen, Yes I tried the W11JPN, and liked it very much with chinese/japanese female vocals songs.....matches so well and I actually spent quite some time listening to the W11JPN.
But the Stax impresses me toooo.

Yukari, Have you tried ATH-W5000 or Audio Technica "AD" Series??

I think that could perform very well for your favorite genre. (I use AD900 and K701 when I would like to listen Chinese vocals songs, Jazz and Classical music that I can be happy and feel relax with them

Thank you very much for your administration. Unfortunately, I came so late (at 3pm) and went out again at 4pm and came back at 5pm. I didn't try many headphones; however, I'm very happy with many gears and the event...

For HF2, I'm very surprised about the feedback because I didn't expect any feedback; however, I'll ask my friend about the cable

Thank you again...

P.S. Would you mind if I call you for asking for some comments or advices?

I tried w5000, but I still like W11JPN better. But it seems quite difficult to grab one (don't even mention bargain price)...

About the HF2 and the jumbos. My friends (who don't mod my HF2) said that the HF2 with jumbo can provide wider sound stage with balanced bass and treble sound reproduction. Many friends who change HF2 with the jumbos are very satisfied with this...

However, for my HF2, I cannot know about the differences between original pads and the jumbos

This may sound incredibly strange, but I reckon the Grado HF-2 have too much emphasis on the mids
confused.gif
. It is almost surreal. They have a sound signature that IMO, is difficult to explain
tongue.gif
I wish I could borrow someone's pair of Jumbos, but I do not know of anyone that has a spare pair
frown.gif
I guess one day I am going to have to try them :p

The Grado HF-2 is a headphone which needs no explaining, it is just really fun to listen to. Not too detailed, not too much bass, treble, soundstage etc, just right
smily_headphones1.gif
I would love something else though. Not sure why, I just cannot be satisfied with one headphone I love, I want more
tongue.gif
I am 99% set on selling my ALO-780. With that money, I will buy a new graphics card (need $120 more or so), Grado Jumbos (unless someone has a pair they can lend to me
smily_headphones1.gif
) and probably save the rest.

BTW, I think my DT880 sound really bassy with my music because it is how metal is recorded: poorly. They are quite revealing
tongue.gif
I am not sure if this is true or placebo though. Did anyone audition my DT880 and though they were on the bassy (or dark?) side of things?

oh btw, I mentioned I listened to T1 before in the HK headphone meet. I think they used iWadia with ipod as source, with LittleDot VIII amp.

Head-fier from HK's impression for amps that can be used includes:LUXMAN P-200, SYMPHONY, RB010B MKII ...etc

Looking at your profile pic I think you are using leather pads. Try the velours one and report back.

Ye, w11jpn's sound is the old ATH sound, smooth and slow, very suitable for female vocal, especially for slow songs. I'm not using it too much, it's more like a collection, hehe. You know that wooden surface is so weak.

Yea. My hk head-fi friend was quite surprise to see W11JPN in the meet (from my photos).

What was the youngest age there?
I would have loved to be there and try out some gear... don't really have anything to bring to the table myself but it's a working progress. Being a poor teenager sucks.
Looks like you guys had a good time.
