http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/491954/melbourne-head-fi-2nd-meet-2010

Just came back from the Melbourne Meet 2010.
It was great to have 12 (or should say 13) people gathered, trying out others' precious gears.

Many thanks to everyone who attended, especially:
Shawn, who organise the venue for us.
Thomas, who fly interstate to Melbourne just for the meet.

[ For the list of gears, please see: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f24/me...2/#post6313861 ]
Alright let's see some pics!

I would say the meet turns out quite successful =)
Thanks all the effort coming in and sharing your gears.
Please give some feedbacks as well as impressions.
Hopefully we'll have another meet soon, with more participants and more lovely gears

p.s. I will probably write my impressions stuff in other post =P
This first post will be a general wrap-up of the meet.

Didn't spend enough time with each person's gear, but the GS1000 sounded surprisingly good with Metallica. They don't seem to have as bad mids as people make out to be. The Beyer T1s are a lot smooth and neutral than the DT880. It is like my 600ohm DT880 with more detail and a lot less bass.

Yes. It's a bit of walk...esp. with heaps of gears with you.

I think the T1 is a big popular today =)
It's my 2nd time listening to T1, and I'm still liking it.
It's transparent, got nice broad soundstage, nice treble and mids, and adequate speed for me. Probably on the top of my most wanted list.

W11JPN is quite impression for me....nice for female vocal (esp. pop, jazz)acoustic....well, things that I listen to mostly.
A bit of warmth and sweetness there, a classic Audio Technica signiture sounding, but still got the clarity there for vocals. A nice match for my taste of music.

Another surprise of the day for me is the HF-2.
um... and probably the modified K701 too.

After the meet, I actually feels like a CAS system might work for me....hummmm.....
AND, it would be nice if we got HD800, ED8 as well. LOL

I want another meet in 2 weeks

Not gonna happen though

I want to spend more time with the ALO Rx and GS1000. I was going to try the GS1000 jumbo's on my HF-2. Dunno why I didn't

. But damn, these DT880 are bassy! I tried the Denon D5000 with Metallica as well, I liked them tbh. Guitars sounded slightly recessed but vocals seemed fine.

I spent the most time with the T1, of course

I didn't try the HD650 or the Stax, as I know they would be a terrible combination for metal. The day went SOOO quickly. I got there at like 11:45 and by the time I had everything set up, said hi to everyone etc, it was 1:30
frown.gif
I kept going back for quick listens with each headphone, instead of one long session with each

I got to try the SR-325is and compared it to my HF-2, but just with one song. The HF-2 just had more body to the song, mids were more pronounced and the bass went deeper, overall just a better can.

The can that surprised me the most was the GS1000. I was expecting them to have poor mids and sound terrible with metal, they sounded very nice tbh.

The headphones that least surprised me were the K701. They just didn't do it for me. Of course, I just had it like this: Laptop FLAC>iBasso D4 Mamba>MAD Ear+ HD. I should really have tried it with the Burson HA-160, but I didn't have enough time
frown.gif
There were about 13 people there and to try all of their equipment, it would take something like 3 5 hour headphone meets, as opposed to one

Overall I had a great time. The JVC Victor HP-DX1000 were AWESOME with a drum track (yes, only drums, NOTHING else). Really nice out of an iPhone 3GS as well! Their bass went deep but didn't seem bloated at all to me.

Pics 4, 6 and 13 are pics of my equipment, minus the HA-160

Thanks for the impressions and nice pics. That will give me some things to read and drool over.

Will do, after I get a job >_>

I couldn't imagine bringing all my gear on a plane tho...I don't trust those people that throw the luggage on and I couldn't dare bring it all on board with me.
