How did you enjoy it with my MapleTree Ear+ HD? Did you prefer the sound sig with that (tube) or your Auditor (SS)? I tried it with both, but couldn't really see much of a difference, as I was using your system and then switched to my system, not a very good comparison

I almost forgot.... I tried your MapleTree that is my second time (the first time I tried my friend's amplifiers) that I tried tube amp with the headphones

In my opinion (from the one who's new in headphones), this is a very fantastic amplifier that provides bright, smooth and clear sound (I connected with my MS1

) .... I think it is one of the best amplifiers that I've ever tried... I like it

Should've brought a knife or something.

I think so.... Now I'm living in Footscray (15 mins walk from Footscray Station) . I always go back to my house (rental house) around 10.30pm or later due to my evening class or part-time job. I seldom walk from the station to my house but I often catch the bus No. 223 from the station to Geelong Road and then walk to my house.

In the night time, almost shops are closed and stranger (? or else?) often be there. I think I would rather spend more time in traveling back than walk alone. I was being chased by someone (I think he might drink a lot of alcohol) in the night when I went back. Fortunately, there was a supermarket (Coles) that I can be there for a while...

I think she has a lot of Chinese music (I think she like this music genre so much) When I tried her iMod, many songs are audiophile with high quality singer and production. In my opinion, this kind of music is focused on the voice power of the singers. I think the electrostatic headphones (Stax) and some other headphones (Audio-Technica "W" and "AD"series or else) may suit for this (not too much bass or treble but wide soundstage and highly response?

)

In my opinion, for pop/rock or heavy, I'd prefer Grado

I plan that next meeting I will beg my friend to ship my A900 and AD900 and I will load some Thai music to my iPod too

I enjoyed it a lot. I thought the MAD brought vocals more to the fore (which was what I was hoping for). But I just didn't have enough time to do a real comparison, alas! The Auditor is great for clarity and detail; I'd like to find out if the MAD is similar in that regard.

Great meet.

Unfortunately, I spent more time doing admin (letting people in and out) and socialising than I did listening to rigs.

One issue is the difficulty at doing an A-B comparison between amps (just too hard to keep moving amps around).

Otherwise, it was good.

Sadly, I didn't get the opportunity to try Yukari's selection of IEMs (forgot my tips) and amps (no time!).

Some standouts include:

The Beyer T1 via the Trafomatic Head One. Excellent clarity, instrument and voice seperation, good bass (but not bassy), very solid tones.

Collagen has a recabled HF-2s that were really much better than stock. From memory, the bass was less muddy (with similar kick). The mids and highs were clearer. Sadly, he said he mate recabled it but didn't know exactly what cables were used.

Would have liked to spend more time on the MAD.

The Cavelli CTH was a surprising match with the Grados. So much so that Duckman (Dave) lent it to me. Going to do more extensive listening.

The Burson HA160 resolved music with alot of clarity and had enough power for high-impedence cans but the ground loop issue bugged it and I thought the sound was a little too cold and analytical.

At the end of the day, I left not with gear envy, but with the realization/confirmation that I am actually VERY happy with my rig. We can chase the upgrades but I think I'll just stop and listen to the music even more.

If I go through 4 more pairs of headphones and still prefer the HF-2 over them, I think I am going to buy another HF-2 and mod my current one's with Jumbos (I will see if I like them or not) and a recable (probably APS V3).

I think the T1 really could do with a tube amp - Everything sounded very transparent and airy, but IMO could do with a touch of warmth to make it more musical.

Next time I hope I have the chance to hook the STAX up to someone's high-end DAC to really see what it can do. Might also look into replacing the capacitors as suggested by Audiocats.

yeah, but it depends on the persons listening preferences. I reckon if they were hooked up to a balanced tube amp (very detailed tube amp), they would be a lot more to my liking. I think they could do with a tad more bass

I think that MapleTree tube amp is very fantastic for me....
ksc75smile.gif

However, I think I rarely own any high quality tube amps due to very low budget to buy

In my opinion tube amps can provide better sound than solid-state amp (when I connect with my HF2 and K701
biggrin.gif
)

P.S. There is no owner for the adapter????

Wow...just listened to "J. Haydn: String Quartet in D, Op. 76, No. 5 - Finale - Presto" from High Resolution Music DOWNLOAD services with my DT880 and MapleTree Ear+ HD. Absolutely stunning, I can't wait to get some more well recorded songs. 139mb for a 3 minute 39 second song is a LOT. Then again, it is 24BIT/192kHz and 5153kbps (yes that's right, about 5x more kbps than FLAC ripped from a CD)
biggrin.gif
I don't think my 12GB a month is going to last very long anymore...

Mainly female vocals, pop/jazz/r&b, some accoustics, musicals, soundtrack...
a bit of classical at times.

Good to read that people enjoyed the STAX set-up. I really should've hooked it up to a much more competent DAC than my little nuforce uDac, but it should've still provided a good indication of the general flavor of STAX.

I think my STAX set-up will be where I make my next purchases along with a nice amp for the UE18pro. After reading the RSA Protector thread, I'm giving the balanced route serious consideration.

Yukari, if you have a nice receiver at home then a nice STAX set should be well within reach.

receiver?

ummm yes...I do think STAX matches well with songs I like to hear.
I sort of start paying a bit more attention on FS STAX...LOL
There's a few things I quite enjoy from the meet. But I am sure I can't get them all at once =P
