We're trying to stuff as many people as we can into thrice's place

You're welcome to attend. There should be appeal for people at all levels of experience. Newbies usually have a lot of fun at the meets. I hope to meet you there.

Actually, that narrows it down quite a bit... You've said that the phones are rarely discussed here -- is the mystery phones' manufacturer one that's frequently discussed here?

I think I've got a pretty good guess at this point, but I could be very wrong. (Although the one I'm thinking of, when I have seen it mentioned here, has not gotten glowing reviews -- at least not commensurate with its price.)

Thrice, maybe there should be a door prize for whoever can guess the mystery phones correctly before entering the house...

I've guessed it! It's the Bose Triports! Right? Right? Did I win?

(Am I safe now?

It could be the Leatherheads. I've never seen them at any meets, and there is very little written about them, but:

1. Hirsch doesn't seem like a AT guy, and
2. Never heard of a dedicated amp for them.

1/4" phono throws me...I expected a special Stax/Orpheus type plug

Is the dedicated amp Italian?

Maybe it's the Koss Pro 4AA

This is like trying to guess how much money is in my checking account at any given time (it's a crap shoot).

This is very much my thinking, but as far as the amp goes:
AT-DHA3000 Headphone Amp

D'oh! I guess I'm safe, anyway.

(Actually, I'll just come in disguise. I'm sure no one will recognize me without the grapefruit on my head.

I doubt it's the L3000. it's been present at a lot of meets.
the AT-DHA3000 made an appearance at last month's San Mateo meet too.

I don't have a clue which headphone Hirsch is talking about. more hints please.

Hey, it's tough thinking up hints that won't give the show away.

Hint du jour: It's not an electrostatic headphone.

Hey, we need more DACs! Isn't anyone bringing a tubed DAC to the meet? I'd really like to try one out.

I thought it might have been an AT headphone as well, but it seems that only the L3000 and the W2002 have a dedicated amplifier.

It better not be something tricky, like a modified K-1000
