Low end. Cheap. Generic. Otherwise bang for buck cable thread!

The MeetAlice at least had better sound than the cheapest stuff, just let down by stiffness and more than usual microphonic.
I really like MeetAlice cable. I have it paired with Legato and Quintet. Sounds amazing with both IEMs.

It can be stiff and a bit unwieldy, but the SQ is so good, I don't mind using them as long as I'm stationary. Microphonics can be decreased a lot with the neck cinch.

Glad I bought 2 of them at $21.66 each.

Yeah, it was dirt cheap. I trust NiceHCK that it was OEM cable for another more expensive brand.

Sound quality is over what we paid 😉

Hi, guys,

I have just received this one:

https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/1005...t_main.11.21efcaa449Eeyk&gatewayAdapt=glo2bra

When I am able to make it work, I really like the sound: highs and mids get clean and clear, but on the other side low end not as quick and punch as I am used to. Timbre is very, very good. Impressive for the price.

But it is hard to make it work with my Etymotic ER4XR, as its MMCX conector does not lock. In fact, the headphone is loose in the connector and, then, normally there is no contact and, therefore, the signal does not pass. It takes a lot of patience to be able to make contact and then place it in the ear without disconnecting.
And when there is no permanent contact between the phone and the connector, I get an electric shock.
Finally, the fact that the cable is curved next to the connector makes its use with the Etymotic ER4XR quite difficult. This curved part is quite rigid. I don't know if there's a way to change this.

Yesterday I plugged some 4.4mm cables into my 3.5mm amp using a xinhs adapter. The audio quality improvement was noticeable so I am starting to wonder myself if balanced cables are better even when used with an adapter. It would be practical not having to buy the same cable in 3.5mm versions.
Psychoacoustics is a powerful wizard! 😂

From an earphone presented in the discovery thread, I have arrived to one cable brand that was under the radar for me: Yongse. Someone here with experience with one of his models? I see two cheap references to start with, Whiteze and Glacier 2:

I decided to miss so cheap cables due to theirs sound can't differ much from stock cables. Soon I will try Yongse Warcraft.

Before getting in to materials, it’s worth remembering that a well made cable from a reliable seller is best, as there is a huge amount of junk being sold. Also the differences from cables are usually small, but noticeable.

Copper: warm and musical, slight emphasis on lower notes.
Silver: detailed and technical, emphasising highs.
Silver plated copper: between the 2, balancing warmth and technicalities.

Those are the main 3, but other materials are less certain:
Gold: Adds speed and possibly depth to lows. Can be subtle.
Palladium: Detail and mids (?)
Graphene: Mids

The type of weave is often more about resisting electrical interference than sound, but can also make the cable softer or stiffer.

Thicker cables often have a bigger sound (more mids), but can be heavy or sometimes lacking clarity.

Ultimately, if you say what you want from a cable and a price (“boost clarity while not loosing bass, ideally black, for under $25”), we will try to help. There are so many choices that having a guide can really help.
I would be interested in help. What I have is the shure srh-1440, modded for transparency and bass, and are already very detailed, but it could be more perhaps. For a headphone already on the bright side, maybe what it has is already good, and getting a nice r2r dac is the obvious upgrade. What I have seen for cables is from luna's shop, and if twists are not the thing to look for perse, then I will keep that in mind. This said, what an where do you recommend for cable?

Xinhs on AliExpress is great, NiceHCK make some really nice cables IF you get them at sale prices, and Penon make some lovely cables (best to buy direct from their site). And IV music as recommended by Uprox - I think they were trained by Xinhs. There are many others too.

What cable are you currently using, and what’s your budget? A good quality pure copper cable might reduce brightness, but knowing what you already use would help.

Some suggestions: this from Xinhs (~$20), the Penon OS133 (~$35), or NiceHCK BlackCat (only under $20).

Can they customise the cables for you?
Sure. I received this cable with MMCX connectors just for $63.32 during spring anniversary sale. And sound is not my favorite but it has very good sound quality and aesthetics.

Thanks, I'm actually after cables without connectors for a DIY project.
