Lotoo Paw 6000 (2019)
Dec 25, 2022 at 5:48 AM Post #1,366 of 1,459
Have been thinking about buying the LP6K but had a few questions:

How often do they update products? Are there any rumours of a new product like this from them or an update?

I have Sennheiser IE600's - would these work well together?

Thanks

I have LP6k and LPGT some years long. I think I have had a pair of updates for both. After your very imput I just have had a third.

Looking for some input. Does the 6000 mount properly as a USB DAC or storage properly on a Macbook Pro M1 ?

Thanks

I asked Lotoo this question, and they confirmed it should work as long as you are using proper standard type-c cable.

Hi all,

I'm about to pull the trigger on P6k, have read the whole thread in the past 2 days, but still have a few questions if I may:
  1. Is gapless playback supported for specifically .mp3 files?
  2. I exclusively listen to complete albums and not to individual songs nor playlists and my album names look like "j1959 ~ Kind Of Blue" (but without the " "). Would this be recognized for sorting in Albums? If so then I have solved my Genre issue before it was even created as the j in the example is for Jazz, while I also use Classical, Popular, and World, but if it doesn't work for sorting then I have a "calamity" :wink:
  3. For recognizing multi disk albums I'm using for example "j1959 ~ Kind Of Blue [1]" and "j1959 ~ Kind Of Blue [2]". But I wonder if these will show up as 2 separate albums (the wanted behaviour) or that all tracks of both discs will be played regardless of the [1] and [2] additions. If relevant, yes I'm also using the disc number as a tag.
  4. iTunes for Windows uses the album name to create a map with the same name but cuts down the length to (can't remember) 50 or so characters, and this can lead to the [1] and [2] additions not showing up as separate maps at the Windows file system. Instead, 1 map is created where the files of both maps are stored and track numbers look have for instance 1-01, 1-02, ... and 2-01, 2-02, ... in front of them. So I wonder what happens to album names that are over 50 characters long and then are followed by [1] and [2] additions as those would be truncated while I desperately need them as 2 different discs (which will be no issue if the disc number tag is working).
  5. For #2, #3, #4 would it be different if I used Folders instead of Albums? Of course my Genre trick wouldn't be working, but still.
I have demoed P6k and liked what I heard a lot but it was all with individual tracks and at the time I wasn't aware of the tagging challenge. Unfortunately I have no way of double-checking these deal breakers before ordering :frowning2: so any help/insight would be highly appreciated. Tnx much...

I don't have any .mp3 files, so I can't answer that one.

I exclusively use the Folder view, so again I can't answer the Album questions.

I love Folder view on the P6K! I can quickly find any album I want (I don't do playlists either). My folder structure is Artist>[year]Album Name. I also have "00-Classical" and "00-Jazz" folders to see those genres. hth.

Hi, hope these helps

1. Gapless playback for mp3 files. That's a tricky one. I don't have that many albums on mp3 for a definite proof, but I do have Vivaldi's 4 seasons, and yes it plays without gaps. Conceding that each concerto has three sections and from section to section there is the natural change of theme.

2. P6K sorts files alphabetically, and all my music is organized in folders: 1st by artist name, then by album's name and release year (1973. The Dark Side Of The Moon), and last by track number and title. For mutiple disk albuns, I place each disk on its own folder, under one album folder.
To play the complete album, from first to last track, I open the upper folder (the album) and tap "Play all".

3. Alphabetic sorting has you covered, if you "code name" your folders that way. Again, if you browse the contents of your TF Card to the album's upper folder, and tap "Play all", you'll get a sequential reproduction from head to tail.

4. I've got this one on mine, literally:

File name: 27 - Sonata I per violoncello e basso continuo in D Minore - IV. A tempo giusto.flac
Track title: Sonata I per violoncello e basso continuo in D Minore - IV. A tempo giusto

The track list can't show the name's full line on the display (only in the file "properties"), but in play mode, below the album/song cover art, it scrolls the tracks' full name 86 chars, tedious but yeah.

I think your Genre trick would work, all Jazz, all Classic, all Prog Rock, would be grouped together, if using folder view.

Note:
P6K allows for these main viewing modes: Album list, Songs (all mashed up), Folders, Artist

Thing is I never use Artist when browsing and most often pick a year and listen to the music created in that one year. Call it a time machine :wink: That possibility exists within Albums if I'm correct as it just shows for instance all jazz albums grouped and the years chronologically. If I use either Artists or Folders then the entry would always be the artist. Tnx for your reaction though!

File name: 27 - Sonata I per violoncello e basso continuo in D Minore - IV. A tempo giusto.flac
Track title: Sonata I per violoncello e basso continuo in D Minore - IV. A tempo giusto
So you haven't put the 27 in the track title yourself, right? I assume this means P6k nowadays reads the track number from the tag and I don't have to rename all songs. If correct then that's certainly a bonus!

So now it would be down to whether P6k reads the disc number from the tag as well, or that it only looks at whether a separate folder exists (which won't be the case in my situation for long album titles). Has anyone tested what happens with the latest firmware if a multi disc album is NOT divided in sub folders but ONLY has their disc number in a tag? (like in a perfect world without data redundancy)

Sorry, this is literally, my filename on the media file system,
27 - Sonata I per violoncello e basso continuo in D Minore - IV. A tempo giusto.flac

Lotoo P6k picks up the metadata title tag, and displays it as
Sonata I per violoncello e basso continuo in D Minore - IV. A tempo giusto

Unfortunately P6k does not make full use of metadata tag fields, like sorting music by genre, or composer.
In playing mode it displays title, artist and file type. Swiping the display to the left, you can access further info, album, genre, format, samplerate, bits, file size, lyrics (if any) and a frequency spectrum.
I'm an adept to "if it works, don't meddle with it", and my unit is still on software version 1.2.0.6, the one it came with. I only play music from the tf card to my iems (wired), and never had a reason to update it. I think though, that newer versions don't offer further information than this.

Tnx. It probably means I have to go through 6k albums to undo the iTunes madness. Oh well...

Double-posting this here from the Watercooler thread as it's a typical P6k issue once coming from iTunes:

= = =

Since Watercooler readers seem to show up in the various DAP threads I'm going to post this here (and in the Lotoo PAW6000 thread) as you may be able to help others referring to it:

I have built a collection of just under 6,000 albums since 2003 with album naming, tagging, and cleaning up done through iTunes on a Windows computer. However, for some strange reason iTunes always cuts the underlying folder and file names to 40 positions max. This is no problem within iTunes as the correct info is stored in tags so you never miss any info, while when using a file manager you see cut off album names. This is problematic as long album names that have the same first 40 characters are seen as one single album. This is not a problem for most DAPs as they simply use tags. But...

When preparing to move to Lotoo PAW6000 (with the issue not being restricted to just this brand) I ran into the issue that P6k isn't using tags but the underlying folder name to distinguish different albums from each other. And with many of those being cut off in the past I had a problem. However, after a long search and a lot of testing I found a website with 130 freeware scripts that can completely restore those underlying folder and file names to how they should have been in the first place. In addition to that there's another 129 scripts that can do the wildest things.

For my current purpose I have restricted myself to the script ConsolidateByMoving on this website and it works as advertised:

https://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/scripts.asp#ConsolidateByMoving

2 examples that may help others check whether they have the same problem:

The Smashing Pumpkins album names
p1995 ~ Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness [1] Dawn To Dusk
and
p1995 ~ Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness [2] Twilight To Starlight
previously showed up as
p1995 ~ Mellon Collie And The Infinite S
with all 28 files dumped into it, and P6k would again see it as one very long album while I had tried my best to make it similar to the 2CD offering. That is now fixed.

The Gustav Mahler album names
c1885 ~ Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen {r1952 ~ Furtwängler - Phil O / Fischer-Dieskau}
c1885 ~ Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen {r1957 ~ Boult - VPO / Flagstad}
c1885 ~ Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen {r1967 ~ Barbirolli - Hallé SO / Baker}
c1885 ~ Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen {r1970 ~ Haitink - Concgeb O / Prey}
c1885 ~ Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen {r1985 ~ Baker, Parsons}
c1885 ~ Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen {r1989 ~ Chailly - Deutsches SO Berlin / Fassbaender}
c1885 ~ Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen {r2014 ~ Gielen - SWR SO / Mattei}

previously showed up as
c1885 ~ Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen
meaning in became one huuuuge album, and because these are 7 different versions of the same piece this huge album had for instance track 1 listed seven times, which would make it totally impossible to navigate on P6k. That is now fixed and I have the original 7 albums back.
