Hi, I'm looking for a pair of over the ear headphones for about $150, $175 if they are REALLY nice.  I've been looking at the Bose AE2s but I'm not completely sold on them.  I want ones the are comfy, have great sound quality, and are durable.  Portability isn't a big issue, I'd like ones that fold up but it's not a deal breaker.  I guess what I'm looking for are reviews of some $0-$150 over the ear headphones.    Thanks in advance and sorry if I'm picky lol.

The AIAIAI TMA-1 can be had in that price range. Look into them.

Taste in musical genres? That will dictate a lot on how you should go about choosing a headphone.

Music genres would include just about everything, rap, classical, classic rock, dubstep, metal, and some alternative.  I looked at the Shure's and they seem nice, I'll keep them in mind.  Also, I don't know if it affects the types of headphone, but I won't be using them with an Ipod, just my laptop, so power consumption isn't a problem.

I have similar music tastes and currently own the Audio Technica ATH-A700. I would recommend them. They are definitely uber comfortable. I replaced the stock earpads with the velour pads from the AD700 (open version of the A700), which Audio Technica was kind enough to send me for free

. The price has gone down a lot too, and either model can be had on Amazon for ~$100.

a700's from what ive read is great suggestion, has decent soundstage with sufficient bass, and mids that arent horribly recessed like the m50, of course i have only listened to the 840's so i could vouch that they have the whole ticket but from what people say the a700 is the ad700 with more bass (and closed) probably similar to the 840's in nature and you might save a buck going with the 840's, id be curios to see someone compare them

The ATH-A700s seem really good, and only $117 on amazon.  My only problem is that I don't like the look of them. I like the look of the bose ones I mentioned earlier over the 700s.  Thanks for the suggestion though.

Had a look at the AiAiAi TMA-1 yet? It's a bit of a love or hate design.
IMO it looks amazing XD

Ya I did look at em, I really like the design of them.  Only problem is I can't find em for under $200, which is over my limit, but they seem worth it... I'm really impatient but they might be worth waiting until next paycheck for lol

The tma's can be had for less than 200. You just need to look around. I got mine from an ebay seller who has a store in nyc and is an authorized dealer for only $160.

I'll have to look some more but even ebay won't go below $195 right now, (and I'd rather spend some extra and get them brand new) but I'll keep looking as I've got a couple weeks before payday.  Other suggestions are greatly appreciated, but as of right now I think the TMA's are the best choice.  Thanks to all who responded, I don't think I would have ever heard of them if it weren't for you lol.

Get the Shure SRH840.
Also look at the Beyer DT770 PRO.

Don't even look at the A700's (they will not do hiphop, dub, prog etc, justice at all with low bass levels).

Very best,

Those are both right in my price range and the style is what I'm looking for.   By the way, whats the life expectancy of the TMAs the Shures and the Beyers?  And anyone know about how good their warranties/customer service are?
