LG V20 Sound Quality

let say the lgv20 is among the great sounding sources, but it will not at all compete for example  with cowon plenue s

No worries.  I'm just teasing and ultra-jealous that you have such first-hand knowledge of epic SQ sources.

For me, this is the apex of my audio experience so far and, if I'm being honest, this V20 purchase is the only way I got my wife to LET me spend this kind of dough on an audio device, because it just so happens to be a flagship phone that costs normal flagship phone prices.

There was literally no argument about getting the V20 at all, whereas normally she'll freak out if I try and spend over $100 on a given audio device, so no super amazing DAPs/Amps/DACs anytime soon.

no harm my friend, and i am happy you like the lg v20, and i like it as well, as its a good source and its a multi purpose device, so what can we ask better than that, i even use it with my avegant glyph to watch movies which is amazing :)

This V20 also points out to me what an overpriced set the RE-600 was, because with the V20, my RE-00 sound every bit as good, and more detailed than RE-600, except maybe in sub-bass/bass, though I think it is too close to call.

Plus, true to standard hifiman iem build-quality form, the dang balanced-to-standard dongle for the RE-600 is breaking at the strain-relief and I keep losing the left ear if I move the cable too much.

The RE-00 is so much better build quality than the RE-ZEROs, RE-400s and RE-600 I've owned, its screw**g embarrassing.  HE-350 is solid, tho.

when u buy it read my tip mod in the ibasso thread as its stock tips are bad, to get the sound i am talking about, you will thank me alot. I honestly do not know how a 250 usd iem can sound as good as an 1800 usd iem. this ibasso totally surprised me

Will do!

I tip-roll every iem that passes through my fingers, because tips massively alter the sound, ime, but it's nice to know there's some reference/guide out there when I need it.

That's why my RE-00's sound as good as my BAP-modified HE-350 (several claim the un-modified HE-350 sounds as good as HD-598, though I have never listened to those and the BAP mod fixes the treble/bass response issues without paper towels).  Sadly RE-600 didn't pick up as much quality from tip-rolling as the RE-00's.

Edit:  Go V20!!

now please do not get me wrong guys, i owned a good number of high end daps and dacs, ak380 and amp, cowon plenue s, fiio x7, and i owned chord hugo and now i own mojo

now of course not the lg v20 does not sound better than ak380 and amp, or the cowon plenue s, not even better than fiio x7 with am2a

but it sound much better than cowon plenue d or ak100ii

i like to keep things in perspective

Someone did a test on this forum to show that it outperforms the ak240.   I know there were people who used  the lgv10 with viper4android and said they preffered that sound to the ak380.  They didn't say it was "better" but it was more fun.....

BUt I heard too many people compare the v10 to the fiio x7...  Says as good or better.

So I'm guessing v20 with v4a may compete with ak380... I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised..

Sure it is, but quality wise?

and with v4a things change; significantly.

But I digress because I haven't heard the ak380 and most people who haven't heard the lgv20 with viper4android will swear it doesn't make a difference.  This conversation won't go anywhere but likely to turn into the wild west...

You talking about the new w80?

It's ok, but not worth $1,500 and I prefer um pro 50 by a high margin.

I find people who received the review copy of the w80 rate it higher than people who spent their hard earned cash......
