I don't think it's limited to these headphones, I can the same with all I own to be frank, if I disliked the sound I would not have bought them. Could they be improved? Yes I guess but eq has not been the answer for me.

EQ definitely improves the LCD-X quite a bit. I personally think it does take away something from the technicalities though.

Does it take away enough to put them in a “lower tier” of headphones? Not to me. Although, if you’re buying these for their technical performance, I can see how you wouldn’t want to use any EQ.

EQ can also be pretty “clunky” depending on how you do it.

Hart audio cables is a solution in the US... I like the method of having all of the amp connectors in a small case and you just chose the connector you need for any given amp... so their solution works for SE and Balanced... you just get the multi kit 1 in the touch of grey and then just get the interconnecting cable that matches your headphones... and they are at a pretty good price too... https://hartaudiocables.com/collections/headphone-cables

Just purchased a B stock pair of the LCD-X through Audeze. I’ve wanted to try them out for quite some time as a hopeful upgrade in SQ and a different listening experience vs my Mr. Speakers Mad Dogs, but the price tag new always kept me at bay. The B stock price hooked me though :) I was also considering the HiFiman Ananda and I realize that would be a different listening experience vs the LCD-X but the comments and reviews of the X kept me thinking this is the way I wanted to go. No that being said, I don’t use a PC as a source so EQ’ing isn’t really an option for any cans I use and so it will be interesting to see if the X sound works for me without using it.

Initial amplification will just be a Schiit Magni but may be looking into upgrading that over time.
Ditto. I recently discovered how good planars can sound on a decent tube amp and was considering a Hifiman. However, with the heavy discount on the LCD-X it was a total no brainer.

If you want to hear how well the LCD-X scales with great dynamics then goto post 2155 and try out that EQ set... make sure you have an amp with some nice power and listen to it for a couple days for proper brain burn in... it will be hard to go back to the stock sound...

If you let your brain burn in for a few days with the stock tune, you wouldn't need any EQ.
you do know that Audeze themselves offer a plug in for studio work.. its called Audeze Reveal+ .... you can download the plug in and look for the install with JRiver playback software on youtube... you don't have to buy the Audeze Reveal software but once its installed with JRiver being the playback software for your music you can open the Reveal and in the upper left corner is a selection for the Audeze headphones.. it will say Closed Back or Open... just click the appropriate one and chose the headphone model you will be listening to... the official EQ that the Audeze engineers have created to make their headphones sound more precise is what you are going to hear... if you use Jriver as your computer playback software then its worth the effort to use and its free...
in some of the Audeze in ears Audeze engineers the EQ and places the EQ setup into a dsp chip that is integrated into the headphone cable.... so even Audeze themselves use EQ on their offerings... I would assume that the people who create the Audeze headphones know how to tune the headphones to sound correct ???

Ok... and that might work for some... but, how about instead I took one of the $700 b-stock LCD-X headphones and with EQ/DSP I could create a EQ to where I made the $700 LCD-X headphones sound absolutely exact to a set of 24 individual Focal Model : Trio 6 Be speakers ... those speakers would cost you $72,000.00 ....and thats twelve of those speakers out of each ear cup all in their positions ...have you ever listened to a Audio Demo Room at a high end audio shop with 24 Focal Trio 6 be speakers.... I bet you can't find a store setup that nice....
There are people who think EQ is to correct a problem with a particular set of headphones.. but that wouldn't be the case with the LCD-X that with the proper EQ would sound like a $72,000.00 sound room.. so let that EQ complete its brain burn in for a couple days and then turn off that EQ... I can tell you that your brain/ears wont like the sound of a stock LCD-X and you will have to complete a new brain burn in to sort out the sound again... as much as I like the stock sound of the LCD-X I like the emulation of those 24 Focal speakers even better and that $700 is an absolute bargain ...

when Jonne first put that EQ out there I had some of the same thoughts.. but I went ahead and loaded the parameters just to see what it was all about... and to my surprise it really really changed the sound signature... I gave it some time with the burn in phase and actually liked it quite abit... so much so I asked Jonne if I could get one more with the LCD-XC ... its different sounding but in a good way.... thats whats so cool about good EQ sets... you get to change them or select different ones for different music... its really down to how you use the equipment ...

LCD-X (2020) sounding amazing through the THX789 (XLR out), Gustard P26 preamp with Burson Vivid opamps, and the Soekris DAC1421 R2R DAC.
Coming from the HD800S + tube amp, the LCD-X + 789 is slightly narrower in soundstage but pinpoint imaging, extremely fast timbre, dynamic and razor flat tonality have me much more satisfied with this headphone and amp combination.
Saving up for the Burson Soloist GT and some new opamps.. :)
Love the stock sound signature of the LCD-X -> Heavy bass but not overblown, clean midrange, sparkly treble. Very detailed set of cans.
