LCD-2 VS Grado RS1 for Rock

OK, doing listening with the GRADO RS1-i
 
NOPE, not even CLOSE to the LCD-2 (rev1s)
 
highs are HIGH...not matched by equal bass/low
 
LCD-2 are perfection

What source are you using? They didn't sound natural like the way HD600's or even Grados make music sound, but they were nowhere near the bloated and gross mess I thought they were going to be.
 
They're also stupid easy to build cables for too, it's just a 3.5mm to 3.5mm interconnect except with a threaded 3.5mm plug at the end!

I have no doubt the LCD2 is better than the RS1 for dubstep since it’s so focused on bass.
 
But since the thread was started asking about rock music, that’s where it’s much less clear cut about which might be better. Personally, I did not like the LCD2 much for rock. seemed too dark for me. RS1 handles it amazingly, though.

Not for me...I like the RS1, LOVE the LCD-2...think it really depends on amp...but even with rock too, LCD-2 wins, Pearl Jam/G. Dead/Hendrix/Vaughn...anything I throw at it

I think it is subjective - to me the problem with the RS1i is the bad treble quality and patently unnatural presentation (2D, uneven/coloured, lacking bass extension)
 
They are fun to rock out with and do good things with electric guitar but, well everything else is pretty unrefined for the money ($700) and very genre limited IME.

lol they're good with alot more than you think.
 
folk, jazz, pop, house, and of ocurse anything rock. 
 
the price is justified, you just need a better amp.
 
the treble is great too, very smooth and non-fatiguing, kinda like my hd-650s.

What, why even argue that RS1i treble is smooth - this is pure nonsense - maybe if you chose an amp that smooths (colours) the treble you can cover up the uneven treble on the Grado but this does not make the Grado treble smooth.  
 
Still I have not heard your system so maybe if you do match an amplifier with enough smoothing of treble the RS1i magically has good treble presentation - I will have to take your work for it.
 
You can argue that any genre sounds good from the RS1i (same as you can argue any genre sounds good from LCD-2) but this is down to personal preference.  
 
Grado adds fun coloration but IMO is too lacking in other areas to be worth the money.  It's crazy to me to spend so much money on fun coloration but that is just IMO.  When I spend $700 I expect more than just fun coloration, I expect some technical audacity.
 
IMO Magnum might be worth the money if it brings the refinement up to an acceptable level.
