I didn't spend enough time with the Heritage amp. I prefer the combo HP3 + Plenue 2 mkii ( 2.5mm balanced output) because of the EQ and Jeteffects of the Plenue. Warm, full bodied, tight bass and no harsh at all!
I have the Heritage amp and I find it redundant. Almost all of my daps have more than enough to drive the HP-3 and I also prefer the Cowon (Plenue L) 4.4 out. I'm pretty sure actually that ALL of the daps could drive them, I just haven't tried them all.
Besides, the daps have a better dac chip than the Heritage so....

I’ve only heard the Heritage 1x with the HP-3 but I “believe” you’re the 1st person ever to say that the DAC chip in any Dap Is better then the Heritage. But that’s cool, it’s your opinion.
As for driving the HP-3, anything can basically drive these including straight from your phone with just a dongle. Of course it won’t sound as good but these things are as easy to drive as anything out there. But?..: if anyone’s planning on using these for portable use, why? These are too nice to take outta the house.
I'm currently listening to them with the IFI ICAN 2 Pro, the Xbass and 3D functions together with the tube + is simply sublime.
I find that the tube is very suitable with these headphones..
The dac in the Heritage is an ESS9018. It's the same chip as the iBasso DX90. So just on the surface the daps I have all have higher level ESS or AK chips. But beyond that the implementation is a factor as well. All I'm saying is that having tried the dac in the Heritage is doesn't seem as good to me as all the others in my collection. Anyway, If I use the amp, I never use it that way, always just line in from single ended headphone jack or line out (DX120 seems to work pretty good).

DAC chips are only components , besides we also have the amplification circuits and other components. I think the Heritage Amp is nice anyway.
BTW , do you use Jeteffects of Plenue L with HP 3? I have just found out an user Jeteffects seting in Plenue HK website which offered spatial balanced sound with dynamic vocal for the HP 3.
And ? The combo Shanling M6 Pro + hp3 is more enjoyable than your Focal Clear?
Just curious how good is your new Shanling M6 pro? I have Shanling M3s, M5s and get used to Shanling sound signature... The Plenue 2 mkii uses AKM 4497 too
try also with the Fiio M15, gain at minimum, volume at 100 (up to 120).
Excellent combination, full-bodied sound, very detailed.
It is a headphone that could also be piloted with a smartphone.
P.S. the Fiio M15 in my opinion is the best DAP up to € 2,000, perhaps even others that cost more.
