after the series ended, i'll still listens to their songs, and probably more anime songs as well.

you could consider ath-ad700 too for your choice of music, and i must remind you that anime ost mostly into pop (j-pop actually), so pop should included in your fav :p
about my cans....er.... it is one of ath woodies that already discontinued, so i cannot really recommend this one :p

Why not go for lossless? Unless you're using a portable player. What was your source again?

im using my phone (5800XM) and iPod Classic 80GB (idk if its 5G or 5.5G or what)
also from my laptop which is a Dell XPS M1330

and its quite hard to find anime lossless songs.
so im choosing the highest quality possible to easily downloaded.

well, a little off topic, but the vast majority of k-on songs are pretty terrible and suffer from "squirrel" syndrome.  the only ones i find listenable are Don't Say Lazy and No, Thank You, both of which are sung my Mio's VA.  That being said, i think its sad that a music themed show like k-on has produced subpar music whereas Angel Beats has generally a much higher standard of music.

but k-on music, being basically female rock, should be paired with a pair of mid-centric phones like Grados.  something treble centric might make the music, which is already hot, unbearable.

umm..
what is a squirrel syndrome?
harsh sounding or terrible mixes or what?

im pretty new to this stuff so i need some explanation..

about angel beats! i think angel beats songs are a bit on the mellow and soft side. whereas k-on is rock and a bit loud..
ie. ichiban no takaramono from angel beats is a very slow song.

he might be refer to 'chipmunk' kind of sound, high pitched and a bit fast tempo
as you might be already aware, yui cs seiyuu's vocal had been mixed and re-arranged in order to 'fit' with the chara description
but imho it always come to the preference of each individual, so if you like it, than go for it

my personal favorite would be enoz of aya hirano and sakamoto maaya

yeah, chipmunk.  couldn't think of the term.  Maaya Sakamoto is probably one of the best singers.  gotta go for Audio Technica for her stuff.  treble focus and crazy smooth.  Hemisphere on ck10s are godly.

back to the topic, i would like to nominate ath-m50 too, it had good bass and all around can that will fit for listening j-pop
