I have n3ap's and fw01's. Totally different signature. n3ap's have the standard Sony sound to them. Warm and V shape. As you have probably read, FW01's have a specific timbre. FW01's have better mids and there is air/sparkle there even though highs are rolled off some. I like them both and can't say one is better than the other. What I can say is that n3ap has a kind of standard commercial sound to it. Nothing really sticks out to me as being very special or exciting. The fw01's have something special to them. I reach for them more.

I agree with that, but el-jorge wants something that’s suitable for a daily commute and can be powered with just a smartphone. The XBA-N3 is better than the FW01 in that regard.

I listen to all my IEMs through my iPhone x dongle. Could they sound better on other gear? Probably but I don't feel like dealing with anything more than the phone. They definitely don't sound bad.

Also take a look at the JVC FD01/02 ,Thanks. I already made a shortlist of possible iem's, I already narrowed it down, because there is a lot of choice. The Sony was part of that.
Sony XBA-N3AP
Fiio FH5
Westone W30
Dunu dn-2000
But I need to do some reading which are good for commuting. Behind the two JVC's (FX1100 & FW01), my main interest goes out to the Fiio. But I need to do some more reading about the Sony.
FX1200 vs FW01 vs FW02?
If you are a bass head, buy the FX1100/1200. For greater accuracy, the FW01 is my choice.
jmills8
Previously known as bmiamihk, jmills2
I like both of those worlds in one.If you are a bass head, buy the FX1100/1200. For greater accuracy, the FW01 is my choice.

After comparing the FW01 to the FXZ200 over the past few days, I’ve realized that they need several hundred hours of burn-in before sounding their best. The sound is big, well-separated with the most delicate of details becoming audible, and the bass is very respectable.

Burn-in yes, about 200 hours.

Mine are well beyond 200 hours.
Mine are well beyond 200 hours.
Keep going ... some have reported as many as 400 hours. I felt most of my improvements came within 200 hours, if my memory serves me correct.

Try Knowledge Zenith KZ Starline ear tips. Cheap Chi-Fi IEMS but their tips sealed pretty well for me.
