You will be very happy when they arrive, though

Man!!! I'm sooo glad I sprung for these Bad Boy's when I did. I'm always the Guy that hesitates and gets stung. Not this time.

The normal audiocubes website doesn't have any indication of limited availability

please don't give me another reason to buy another set of headphones.

Here's one reason to get another set of headphones: jant71 speculates that the $150 JVC M1000 uses the same driver as the DX1000-- I've never heard the DX1000, but I can tell you this much: to my ears the M1000 was just as good as an Audio Technica A900ti when I tested them yesterday, and way better than the normal A900. Read this thread for details.

Did you have a chance to compare them to an ATH-W1000 or W5000 while at Audiocubes?

The audiocubes store is a disappointment in that regard: no AT higher than the A900ti, no Denons, and no Stax on hand. Half the small space is given over to those gizmos and toys that Audiocubes also sells. Also the location is kind of odd, like they're just trying to sell gadgets to NYU and Cooper students.

Just from memory, though, I'm willing to bet that the M1000 also beats a DT770 or a K271S, though. It's certainly easier to drive, and just as comfortable. You can imagine how surprised I was when I tried it out on a whim, expecting nothing much. If I needed some office headphones, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to get the JVC, and normally I only buy vintage headphones, never new.
