Yup.  Minor variations in vent tuning, but the mod is more independent of the pads now.  The 840 needed a bigger reflex dot as well.  Very easy.

He did say " earcup-side of the driver (modeling clay side)" so he probably meant the back side of the driver.

Good information yipcanjo and thanks for sharing with us. Would you be able to snap a picture of the back of the driver with the new felt?  (or from another piece of the same felt. I know how hard those srh-840 pads are to put back on

)

Thanks, Twinster -- I did indeed mean the back-side of the driver.

Here's a picture of the felt that I used this time around (white).  It's not only a fair amount thinner, which is hard to recognize in the photo, but it also felt considerably less "dense" -- and thus likely allows more sound through.  The (white) felt was just a large scrap that my daughter had in her room.

Is it worth the extra money for the O2 pads?

BTW, is this what I need for the RP2?

No, that craft felt is the wrong kind.... Its limp... you need stiff felt if you're wanting to do Rp2.

Alright, would you please do us all a favor and save 70+$ on your purchase?!?!?! -.-

http://www.michaels.com/ -One stop shop... They stock everything...

Everything you need for under like 20 bucks... For many, many sets too! Stiff Craft felt for example is 94c... Claytoons is 5 bucks...., not 15. Electric tape is 55c at your local wallmart, for the good stuff, home depot 1.20...

Cotton is 2.60 at Wallmart (Usually near womens accessories/hair clippers) and it's like 6 bucks @ Michael's. Online I think it's probably like 10..

The dang T50rp is 76 +ship bucks anywhere, other than Amazon. Please do not purchase at Amazon. Save yourself some money and donate 50% to me. =)

(I'd even make you some RP2 or RP2i for like 145$ shipped.... And send you extra materials for another modding set! And get it out to you day of agreement. With 3-5 day day shipping...

I found the 2 week shipping frusterating...>.< I don't make anything for this either... since each set takes like 4+ hours and then you have listening/tuning to do.

Regarding the craft felt comment. You are out of context there Hennyo. Read the OP previous post. He tried the stiff felt and didn't like it. To each is own preferences.

Very good thank you again. I do have similar soft felt but to my surprise when I check for the breathing resistance on both the soft and the stiff felt the latter was better??? My stiff felt had some sparkles in it (do not remember where I've got it from) and when looking over a light it also let more light's through.

I'm not that lucky because I still find my HD650 and Ms-Pro to sound much better than my T50rp.

( mix feeling cause I like those cans)

I just read through about 200 posts to catch up on this thread, and set this one aside as my segue because I still like my HF2 better than my T50, although I'm pretty fond of my T50's.

The biggest upgrade for both phones was the Harmon Kardon 330B I just picked up to use primarily as a headphone amp. The 330B had a reputation for being warm and tubey sounding. I'm not real sure how accurate the tubey part is, but the HK has definitely added some warmth and musicality that the Sparrow by itself wasnt giving me.

I've messed around with the dampening quite a bit since Tyll returned them. I had some paxmate on the ear side that toned down the mids. Took that off when I got the 840 pads. I've had all sorts of material over the stock felt covering the driver. I discovered a tweed like material that seems to work the best, so that's what's on there now. I replaced the paxmate in the bottom of the cup with some cotton, but left the paxmate on the walls of those little tubs in the bottom of the cup. Replaced the cotton with some sponge material. I have something else I was goint to try too, but I'm sort of content with the sound right now, although I'd like to dial back the mids a little.

Current configuration on the earside is:

1) felt removed to expose the driver and 840 pads.

On the inside:

1) stock driver felt intact and covered with some tweed like material.
2) Some paxmate on the walls of the tubs with sponge material in the tubs
3) stock felt on bass port replaced with that tweed material, two slots covered

I don't think so.

BTW, if you're willing to get Plasticine, Fatmat and dampening foam from Amazon, and send me half I'll pay for half of the stuff... the main reason I don't want to do any mods is because of the expense and the amount of material I'd have left over.

If anyone has any Plasticine, Fatmat/Dynamat or dampening foam for the RP2 mod, please let me know.

EDIT: Actualy, is foam needed for the RP2 mod?
