I put back 3layered tape on the corners of the bare squares... I like the result --- bass is definitely cleaner and tighter. Mids is clean and further than I would like it to be but I'll leave it as it is for now...

Will compare it to my original recipe soon.

Furniture bumpers were bought at Home Depot or Lowes.

I used the large, clear, flat semi-hard furniture bumpers for reflex dots. I know it does not show very well in the photo. There was no noticeable difference compared to the small flat bumpers. The felt and rubber bumpers produce a bit less treble. I have not tried the domed bumpers.

Ok so with my increase in quality of equipment, I have only one complaint. Some recordings are now brutal to listen to. There is some stuff that I literally can't listen to. Even albums that I have ripped to flac and know are done correctly, the recordings just have parts with noise and static what I can only describe as around the instruments. It really does show that quality of source gets more and more important and the resolution of the equipment increases.

I also spent a few hours before playing with equalization. I basically gave up discouraged. I spent a good amount of time listening to sine waves and trying to find peaks in my hearing and my headphones. I found one around 7khz and another around 10khz, but I really need to figure out a good way to equalize things. There are so many solutions for Foobar and things get very very complicated in a hurry. It is something I will definitely have to revisit in the future. At least I was able to confirm that I can hear up to around 16.5khz and down to around 45hz when listening to these guys.

So I opened up my T50RP again. I did the Rastapants but instead of electrical tape I tried the felt over the bass ports since I can't find electrical tape. I'm waiting on the O2 pads since I bought it from someone here and it was not shipped from the same country so will take some time. 
 
It's definitely less bass than with the vents uncovered but I like the quality of bass much better. That's the most obvious change I hear so far.

Unfortunately, gotta say after all the mods, with 840 pads, they don't compare in anyway to the D7000's. No sounstage, hot midrange, unbalanced sound. That being said, all I'm running them out of is a soundcard, which was what the modded D7000's were using also. But they may improve greatly with an amp, let's see how they go when I get the Headzone Pro package from Beyerdynamic.

I'm just going to post my impressions of dogears' Fostex vs my DT770-250's. Take note though, my DT770's are not a stock pair. I bought them from a head-fier a couple of years ago. They're double-entry and the cables are cryo-treated Mogami cables. I can't vouch for what the difference of this pair is vs. stock DT770's but going by what the seller told me before, the sound is more balanced compared to the initially bass-leaning stock DT770's. Anyway...

For starters, the Fostex beats my DT770s in terms of detail and imaging. With the Fostex, the separation of the various instruments is more pronounced. I could tell where the different sounds are coming from more clearly and I'm also able to hear more of the nuances in the music.

My problem with the Fostex comes from two things: First is the comfort. My DT770 cups my ears perfectly while still giving it enough wiggle room and sits on my head quite nicely. On the other hand, I find myself adjusting the Fostex every so often and simply couldn’t find the right fit. Comfort aside though, the balance of the sound just doesn’t work for me as well as the DT770 does.

I tried dogears’ current incarnation of his Fostex two ways: I initially got it from him with two pads on top of each other and a pleather wrap around them. My problem with that one is that the bass was too bloated. With my DT770s, there is a pronounced bass, but it’s as if the bass bump on the DT770 is focused on a narrower band of frequencies compared to the Fostex where there is somewhat a wider swell. The effect is that the bass on the DT770’s feels more tight and punchy while the bass on the Fostex is a bit more distended.

I also tried dogears’ Fostex without the second layer of pads and without the outer pleather wrapping. On this one, the opposite extreme happened compared to my DT770s. While it felt like the sound was able to breathe more, it also sounded a bit too sharp. So, what I’m guessing is that the ideal balance in dogears’ tweaking of the Fostex lies in between the 1-pad vs 2-pad versions.
