I've never heard the HE-4, but I have always believed that a vintage Lambda + SRM-1/MKII (which can usually be had for ~$500-600) represents something close to the pinnacle of value for money in the Head-Fi world.

You're setting yourself up for failure by posting this. Be happy with what you have. It sounds like a nice setup for what it costs. :)

If you like the sound signature of the HE-4 then I do think it's likely one of the best rigs for the money spent because I can't think of anything at that price that would do that signature as well as an ortho.  But if you don't like that signature, then anything with a preferred sound signature would be better, even ksc-75.

I'm guessing from the impressions of the HE-4 that I would prefer ksc-75 out of an ipod.

yes with the dac and amp i picked its sound amazing. i dont hear any brightness i think its the dac that i chose its sound analog, i woundnt use this dac if you got hp's that are dark like the senn hd650 and with a tube amp the mids show up very nicely. so i think it just a perfect match for the he-4 and for the money.
